The AIRunner repository documents four public Python distributions: airunner for the desktop GUI, airunner-services for headless services and model runtimes, airunner-native for optional launcher and bundle tooling, and airunner-common for shared metadata. The GUI distribution is documented as depending on the services distribution.

Which AIRunner packages are public?

The AIRunner repository README names four installable distributions. Their documented roles are distinct, although they are parts of one broader project.

Distribution Documented responsibility Practical role
airunner Desktop GUI client and entry point; the root package pulls in airunner-services automatically. The desktop application users launch.
airunner-services Headless daemon, FastAPI server, runtime registry and orchestration, downloads, persistence, and model/runtime profiles. The service and model-runtime layer; the repository describes it as usable for headless operation.
airunner-native Optional native launcher and bundle tooling. Its gui extra provides the launcher and also pulls in the GUI. Optional launcher and packaging helpers.
airunner-common Shared metadata. A shared metadata layer used by the project.

These are the responsibilities the README assigns to the distributions, not an independently verified audit of every package release. Exact current versions and release availability are not established here.

How do the package boundaries fit together?

The most important boundary is between the desktop client and the services/runtime layer. The README documents the GUI distribution as pulling in the services distribution, while also describing services as a headless daemon and API server with runtime profiles. That means the services layer is not merely another name for the GUI: it covers the backend capabilities the desktop client can use and can also be installed for headless operation.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

The native package is a separate, optional layer for launcher and bundle tooling rather than the core GUI itself. Its documented gui extra connects it to the GUI when that combination is wanted. The common package has a narrower stated role: shared metadata.

The repository also distinguishes its source layout from its public distributions: src/ contains the desktop UI and client bridge, services/ contains daemon and service code, native/ contains launcher/runtime-layout helpers, and scripts/ contains developer tooling. Those directories describe repository organization; they are not interchangeable with the four installable distribution names.

What does “distribution package” mean?

In Python packaging, a distribution package is the installable project artifact, while an import package is the name used in Python code with an import statement. They often share a name, but that is convention rather than a requirement. The Python Packaging Authority’s terminology guide explains the distinction. Accordingly, do not infer that airunner-services is a Python import path simply because it is a distribution name; the repository documentation cited here does not establish import names for all four distributions.

Does AIRunner use namespace packages?

The split into several distributions may bring namespace packaging to mind, but the available AIRunner README does not establish that the four distributions share a Python namespace package. Python’s packaging guidance explains that namespace packages can let separately distributed subpackages be installed and versioned independently: “Each sub-package can now be separately installed, used, and versioned.” The Python Packaging Authority also cautions that this approach has caveats and is not appropriate for every project. For native namespace packages, the shared namespace directory must omit __init__.py in each participating distribution; a compatible pkgutil-style approach must also be used consistently. See the namespace-package guide.

What does the documentation establish about the split?

The README gives functional ownership and installation context: GUI, headless services and runtimes, optional native launcher/bundle tooling, and shared metadata. It does not give an owner-attributed quantitative rationale for the split or establish release independence, maintenance savings, package sizes, or user adoption. Those outcomes should not be inferred from the existence of separate distributions.

For general context, the Python Packaging Authority’s Packaging Python Projects tutorial describes project metadata in pyproject.toml, how a build backend creates artifacts such as wheels, and the upload and installation flow through package indexes. That explains the packaging mechanics in general; it does not add project-specific claims about AIRunner’s build or release process.
