Giving an AI agent direct access to a virtual machine changes the job from copying its suggestions into a computer to supervising actions it can take there. Bijan, an ethical hacker who wrote about using Claude Code this way, reports less context switching and the ability to work on separate tasks concurrently. The trade-off is that approvals slow the workflow, broader access carries risk, and every result still needs human review.
What changes when an AI can act on a machine?
Bijan says they previously handed different tasks to different AI models, moving code between them as needed. That handoff could strip away context or assumptions. In the newer workflow, Claude Code runs on a virtual machine and can act on that machine instead of only returning instructions for a person to execute.
That is the central shift: the person becomes less of a messenger between models and the computer, and more of a supervisor deciding what the agent may do and checking what it has done. The author also describes defining reusable task skills and running work on separate targets concurrently. These are reported workflow benefits, not quantified time savings or a controlled productivity comparison.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesWhy use a disposable virtual machine?
Bijan describes using a disposable VM so a mistake can be handled by deleting that environment rather than cleaning up a production machine. The approach makes rollback straightforward at the level of the guest environment, but the account does not specify the VM software, guest operating system, configuration, network mode, or what resources the VM could access. A virtual machine alone should not be treated as proof that an agent is contained.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The practical value of a disposable environment depends on what is connected to it. If an agent can reach important files, credentials, shared folders, or external systems, deleting the VM may not reverse actions it took there. Decide what the environment can access before granting the agent permission to act.
How do permissions affect the workflow?
The author uses gated permissions rather than leaving the agent fully unsupervised. Approval prompts provide a chance to review consequential actions, but they also interrupt the agent and add friction. Conversely, broad permissions may make work feel smoother while increasing the consequences of a mistaken or unwanted action.

This is a trade-off, not a setting with one universally correct answer. Keep approvals for actions where mistakes could affect valuable data or systems, and avoid granting access merely to remove interruptions. The source does not document a particular permission configuration, so it cannot establish which controls were enabled or how effective they were.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Why does the agent’s output still need checking?
Bijan says every output needs verification. In security work, the author’s specific concern is that an agent may test within the parameters it was given without coming up with the unconventional ideas a human tester might try. A report that it found nothing therefore is not evidence that a target has no vulnerabilities.

That is the author’s judgment from this workflow, not a measured comparison of human and AI security testing. Treat an agent’s findings as input for review, and do not use a negative result as security assurance. The same general supervision principle applies outside security: inspect the changes and their effects rather than assuming that successful execution means the result is correct.

In the original DEV Community article, author Bijan describes a personal workflow using Claude Code on a VM. The result is an account of practical experience, not a benchmark: it reports no quantified productivity, accuracy, or security outcomes. It also does not identify a Claude Code version, VM platform, host hardware, operating system, or detailed isolation and permission settings. The post’s displayed date is Sep 28, without a year.
