They work best on public pages and APIs that tolerate hosting-network traffic. Compare providers by the cost of a successful page, not just the advertised price per IP or gigabyte, and test a small representative workload before scaling.
What a datacenter proxy does—and when it is a good fit
A datacenter proxy sends your scraper’s requests through an IP address hosted in a datacenter or cloud network rather than through a consumer internet service provider. That makes datacenter proxies attractive for high-volume work where speed and price matter. Eclipse Proxy describes its datacenter product as its cheapest and fastest option and lists HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS5, rotating and sticky sessions, and pay-as-you-go bandwidth.
The trade-off is that hosting-network IP ranges can be easier for anti-bot systems to identify. Oxylabs notes that datacenter IPs can be detectable because they do not originate from an internet service provider. A proxy changes the network path; it does not make a request indistinguishable from a person browsing normally or guarantee access to a site.
Good starting targets
- Public pages, catalogs, documentation and APIs that do not aggressively filter datacenter traffic.
- Monitoring and refresh jobs where predictable, high request volume matters more than appearing to use a residential connection.
- Workloads where you can identify and measure failures, slow down when asked, and stop rather than evade access controls.
When to reconsider
If a particular target persistently returns blocks or CAPTCHA challenges from datacenter ranges, adding more datacenter IPs may simply add cost and retries. First confirm that your request rate, session handling and terms-compliant access are appropriate. If the target still blocks this traffic, test a stronger pool or a different proxy type only for that target; keep datacenter proxies for the sites where they work.

Price labels are not directly comparable: one provider may charge per IP, another per gigabyte, and another may combine both. Check the plan’s full terms and the operational limits that determine whether its headline price suits your workload.
#1 Best Overall
| Provider or option | Published price anchor | Billing and terms to check |
|---|---|---|
| Oxylabs | $1.20 per IP starting price; product page accessed in 2026 | Unlimited bandwidth is described with fair-use conditions; concurrency thresholds are tied to purchased IPs. Verify the thresholds and current checkout terms. |
| Bright Data | $0.90 per IP starting price; product page accessed in 2026 | Offers bandwidth-based pricing as well as shared or dedicated datacenter options. Compare the applicable plan and included limits. |
| ScrapeNow | $0.60 per GB; product page accessed in 2026 | Its current page presents flat per-GB pricing with no minimums and claims a pool of more than 50,000 datacenter IPs. Treat pool size as a provider claim, not a guarantee of success on a target. |
| AWS Marketplace listing | $0.70 per IP and $0.094 per GB in a $500 starter package; listing accessed in 2026 | Packages mix IP and bandwidth units. Check the contract terms and vendor identity before buying. |
These are volatile price anchors, not durable quotes. Recheck minimum commitments, taxes, overage treatment, fair-use rules and any checkout-specific terms before comparing or purchasing. Eclipse Proxy also lists pay-as-you-go bandwidth, but the cited product description does not establish a comparable numeric price here.
Compare the plan mechanics, not only its unit price
- Billing basis: per IP suits steady traffic when bandwidth is effectively unlimited; per-GB billing can be easier to cap for variable traffic. Hybrid plans need both units modeled.
- Concurrency: ask how many simultaneous threads or sessions are allowed and whether the limit changes with purchased IPs or bandwidth thresholds. Oxylabs ties concurrency thresholds to IP purchases; do not assume a particular number without checking the plan.
- Rotation and session continuity: per-request rotation can be useful when reuse contributes to throttling. Sticky sessions are better when a multi-step workflow requires continuity. Use only where permitted.
- Protocols and geography: check support for HTTP, HTTPS or SOCKS5 in your client stack, plus country, region or city availability if localization matters.
- Pool and operations: ask about subnet diversity, reputation, IP replacement, authentication, usage alerts, spend controls and support. Marketing claims do not establish a zero-block rate.
Estimate effective cost per successful page
For each candidate, estimate monthly spend as:
monthly cost = subscription or IP fee + bandwidth charges + expected retry traffic + optional geo/session premiums
Rank #2
- Used Book in Good Condition
Then divide by successfully retrieved pages or records, rather than by requests attempted. Include response bytes, retries, failed attempts and idle IP capacity. A cheap pool that generates repeated CAPTCHA responses or retries can cost more per usable result than a pricier pool with a better success rate.
Per-IP pricing is most attractive when traffic is steady and the effective bandwidth allowance fits your real use. Per-GB pricing makes variable usage more legible, but large pages and retries consume additional data. Fair-use rules, concurrency thresholds and optional location or session premiums can change the calculation, so record them alongside the advertised rate.
Rank #3
What to record in a comparison
- Monthly fixed charges, IP counts, bandwidth charges and any minimum commitment.
- Successful pages, failed pages, retries, CAPTCHA or block responses, and median latency.
- Bytes per page and cost per successful page or record.
- Concurrency and session limits, protocol, location, replacement terms and usage controls.
Roll out gradually and respond to failures by type
- Choose a representative URL set. Include the page types, response sizes, locations and workflows your production scraper actually needs. Begin with a low concurrency ceiling.
- Configure the matching protocol. Use HTTP(S) for common HTTP clients or SOCKS5 where your stack requires it; Eclipse Proxy lists all three. Confirm the provider’s authentication and endpoint format from its own current setup instructions.
- Select session behavior deliberately. Use sticky sessions for a flow that needs continuity. Rotate per request only when reuse is causing throttling and the target’s rules allow your access.
- Classify responses before retrying. Slow down and back off on HTTP 429 responses. Retry transient transport failures with bounded delays. Do not retry a genuine 404 as if it were temporary. Budget Proxies recommends this failure-specific approach.
- Measure the pilot. Track success rate, median latency, bytes per page, retries, CAPTCHA or block responses and effective cost per successful record.
- Scale in measured steps. Increase concurrency only while success and cost remain acceptable. If one target persistently blocks datacenter traffic, evaluate another pool or proxy type for that target rather than silently escalating request volume.
Keep scraping compliant and controlled
Read the target’s robots.txt, terms of service, authentication and paywall boundaries, rate limits, and the privacy, data-protection, copyright or database-rights rules that apply to your use and location. RFC 9309, published by the IETF in September 2022, defines the Robots Exclusion Protocol and states that its rules are not a form of access authorization. Treat robots.txt as an explicit crawler signal, not as legal permission. GSA guidance says agencies should use robots.txt when scraping public-facing data.
Do not use proxies to evade access controls, defeat paywalls, bypass CAPTCHA challenges or collect personal data without a lawful basis. Identify your crawler clearly where practical and provide an abuse contact. A proxy is a routing component, not a substitute for permission or responsible request limits.
Rank #4
Provider shortlist for verification
- Eclipse Proxy: listed for low-cost IPv4 and IPv6, rotating or sticky sessions, and pay-as-you-go bandwidth.
- Oxylabs: managed datacenter pools with per-IP pricing, fair-use conditions and concurrency details to verify.
- Bright Data: shared or dedicated pools with per-IP or bandwidth-based billing.
- Budget Proxies: useful operational guidance on retrying failures according to their type.
- ScrapeNow: bandwidth-priced datacenter service presented for high-volume monitoring and dataset refresh.
- Browserless: a managed proxy and browser alternative for teams that prefer an API abstraction.
- AWS Marketplace: a procurement route with prepaid packages and spend-limit controls; inspect the specific listing and vendor terms.
Use this as a verification shortlist, not a ranking: current prices, pool behavior and terms vary, and no provider’s marketing claim guarantees that a target will not block requests.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a clean visual capture of a page rather than extracting structured data, a proxy-powered scraper may be the wrong tool. ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server; it is an alternative for screenshots, not a datacenter proxy service.
Best Value
One GET request can return an image or PDF. For example, with cURL (see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation):
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners before capture and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits are not billed, and each response says which outcome occurred. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up free for 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.

Are these price anchors guaranteed quotes?
No. They are starting-price or package figures from product pages and a Marketplace listing accessed in 2026; verify current checkout terms, minimums, fair use, taxes and overages.
Does a datacenter proxy guarantee that a scraper will not be blocked?
No. Sites can identify datacenter ranges, and actual outcomes depend on target behavior and your workload.
