The Adidas Adizero Adios Pro 5 is a premium road-racing shoe built for long-distance efforts, especially the half marathon and marathon. Its new carbon-infused ENERGYRIM replaces the Pro 4’s EnergyRods, and reviewers describe a softer, smoother ride. The main caution is fit: the upper is snug, low-volume and tapered, so runners who need room at the toes should try it on before race day.

What changed from the Adios Pro 4?

The Pro 5’s defining update is its carbon-infused ENERGYRIM. Instead of the Pro 4’s carbon EnergyRods, the rim encircles the midsole, with LIGHTSTRIKE PRO foam beneath the foot. Adidas says the arrangement leaves the foam uninterrupted underfoot; Runner’s World also notes more foam beneath the arch than in the previous design. Doctors of Running describes the result as softer and more compliant than earlier models.

The shoe also uses a LIGHTTRAXION outsole with Continental rubber, according to Adidas’s US product listing. Those are design and material descriptions, not independent proof that the shoe improves race results.

How does it feel on the run?

Reviewers describe a smooth, rolling ride that feels most at home at half-marathon and marathon pace. Runner’s World characterizes the rim as stable and snappy, with a midsole that is firm yet soft. Believe in the Run reviewers say the shoe stays quick and lightweight, but feels less aggressively propulsive than some racers where the carbon element is more directly noticeable. That less forceful sensation may suit runners who prefer a more natural-feeling roll.

#1 Best Overall

Doctors of Running reviewers found less snap at shorter distances and very fast paces. That makes the Pro 5 a more plausible choice for sustained distance efforts than for runners seeking the sharpest possible feel in a short, fast race. These are reviewers’ experiences, not a guarantee of how it will feel for every runner.

What are the weight and stack specifications?

Published measurements vary by source and tested size. Runner’s World reports 6.1 oz for a men’s size 9 and 5.3 oz for a women’s size 7, plus a 39 mm heel stack and 4 mm drop. Doctors of Running lists a 39 mm heel and 35 mm forefoot stack, a 4 mm drop, and 175 g for a men’s size 9.

How does the Pro 5 fit?

Expect a close fit rather than a roomy toe box. Doctors of Running reviewers describe a snug, low-volume upper with a quick taper at the toes; Runner’s World notes a narrow arch that may cause blisters for runners with wide feet. Doctors of Running also raises the possibility of friction during longer runs.

Rank #3

Advice on sizing differs. Adidas recommends ordering your usual size on its US product page, while a Believe in the Run tester preferred going half a size up. Because those recommendations reflect different experiences, try the shoe on if possible, particularly if you have wide feet or a history of toe or arch friction. If buying online, check the retailer’s return policy before using it for a long run.

Is it stable, and who is it best suited to?

Doctors of Running describes the Pro 5 as neutral. Its softer foam and midfoot geometry may not give runners the structured support they want. Runner’s World considers the rim stable, but that reviewer impression does not make the shoe a stability model or establish that it will suit every gait.

The strongest case for the shoe is for distance runners seeking a lightweight racer with a smoother, less aggressively felt ride for half-marathon or marathon efforts. Runners prioritizing a roomy forefoot, pronounced propulsion at very fast paces, or more structured stability may want to compare alternatives before choosing.

How does it compare with other race shoes?

Doctors of Running calls the New Balance SC Elite V6 a close comparison, describing its forefoot as roomier and the Adidas as lighter and somewhat speedier. Believe in the Run names the Hoka Cielo X1 3.0 and Nike Alphafly 4 as competitors in a similar price range. These are reviewer assessments, not controlled head-to-head laboratory comparisons.

What does it cost, and what do the performance claims mean?

Adidas’s US listing showed the Pro 5 at $275 on October 4, 2026. T3 reported a global launch on September 22, 2026, at $275 / €275. Prices, availability and currency vary by market and can change, so check the current local listing before buying.

Adidas claims 9% more energy return than the Adios Pro 4; Runner’s World and T3 also relay the brand’s 12.5% weight-savings figure. These are manufacturer-reported comparisons, not evidence that buyers will run 9% faster or save a particular amount of time. The available sources do not establish a population-level performance or injury benefit attributable to the shoe.
