New Outlook for Windows and Outlook on the web have Teams scheduling built in. Classic Outlook for Windows uses the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office, a COM add-in. Outlook for Mac and Outlook mobile use their own online-meeting settings rather than the classic Windows add-in.
Before troubleshooting, check the account. Creating Teams meetings from Outlook requires a Microsoft 365 Business Exchange account. Personal Microsoft accounts and POP/IMAP accounts—including Gmail, Yahoo, and iCloud accounts—are not supported for creating Teams meetings through the Outlook add-in.

If you see the newer simplified Outlook interface, use the new Outlook instructions. If you see the traditional ribbon with File, Home, and Send/Receive, you are probably using classic Outlook.
Schedule one Teams meeting

- Open Calendar.
- Select New event.
- Next to the event title, turn on the Teams meeting toggle.
- Enter the subject, date, time, location, and meeting message.
- Add the attendees.
- Select Send.
Outlook adds the Teams join information after you send the invitation. A draft may not show a Teams link: selecting Save as draft creates the event without Teams join details.

Remove Teams from an individual meeting
Remove Teams while the invitation is still being composed:
- New Outlook: turn off the Teams meeting toggle.
- Classic Outlook: select More commands > Don’t Host Online at the top of the meeting form.
- Outlook mobile: turn off the Teams Meeting toggle.
Microsoft states that Teams can be removed while the invitation is being created, but not after the invitation has been sent.
Fix a missing Teams option
The Teams toggle is missing in new Outlook
New Outlook does not use the classic Teams COM add-in, so installing or repairing that add-in is not the first fix. Confirm that:
- Outlook and Teams are signed in with the same work or school account.
- You are using the new Teams client.
- The account is a supported Microsoft 365 Business Exchange account.
Microsoft’s reset sequence is:
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click the Teams icon in the toolbar and select Quit Teams.
- Start Teams and sign in.
- Start Outlook again.
The Teams button disappeared from classic Outlook
Classic Outlook requires Outlook 2016 or later, the Teams desktop client, current Outlook updates, and a registered Teams Meeting Add-in. If the problem began after moving to new Teams, reinstall the add-in registration:
- Right-click the Windows Start button and select Settings > Apps > Installed Apps.
- Search for Teams Meeting Add-in.
- Open its three-dot menu and select Uninstall.
- Close Outlook.
- Right-click Teams in the system tray and select Quit.
- Restart new Teams and wait for Teams Meeting Add-in to appear again under Installed Apps.
- Restart Outlook.
The add-in is installed but disabled
- In classic Outlook, select File > Options > Add-ins.
- Check for Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office under Disabled Application Add-ins.
- At the bottom, select Manage > COM Add-ins > Go.
- Select the checkbox beside the Teams add-in.
- Select OK on each dialog and restart Outlook.
The add-in fails to register
Use this procedure only in classic Outlook for Windows. Close Outlook and Teams first, then open %LocalAppData%\Microsoft\TeamsMeetingAddin. Open the folder with the highest build number and copy its full path. Open Command Prompt as administrator, then run the command matching your Office installation:

Restart Teams, sign out and back in, then restart Outlook. Do not run Outlook as administrator.
Check privilege levels
If Outlook runs as administrator but Teams does not, or the reverse, the integration may fail. Right-click each shortcut, select Properties > Compatibility, and make sure Run this program as an administrator is unchecked for both applications.

Check the add-in registry value
In Registry Editor, inspect HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Addins\TeamsAddin.FastConnect. The LoadBehavior value should be 3. If it has another value, set it to 3 and restart Outlook. Editing the registry incorrectly can damage application settings, so export the key first and involve your administrator on a managed computer.
Check Outlook security policy
An administrator can inspect the Outlook security policy paths HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Cloud\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security. If promptoomaddressinformationaccess is 0, programmatic access requests are automatically denied. If Configure trusted add-ins is enforced, Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll must be trusted with the correct hash. Teams updates the DLL automatically, so a fixed old hash can stop working after an update.

When the meeting link does not appear
- In new Outlook, select Send. Saving a draft does not add the Teams join details.
- Make sure the event has at least one attendee. Online meeting details are not added to events with no attendees.
- Check that the event is no longer than 24 hours.
- For shared or delegated calendars, a calendar owner’s provider change can take up to 24 hours to appear for another user.
Invitees are missing from Teams Meeting Options
For a recurring meeting, invite people to the meeting series rather than only to one occurrence if they need to appear in the people-selection menus. After adding invitees in Outlook, select Send Update before checking the web view of Meeting Options.

Delegates using Exchange Server or restricted Exchange Web Services configurations may be unable to schedule for another user. An administrator can check organization policy with:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Get-OrganizationConfig | Select-Object Ews*
If EwsApplicationAccessPolicy is EnforceAllowList, Microsoft documents adding these entries:
Set-OrganizationConfig -EwsApplicationAccessPolicy EnforceAllowList -EwsAllowList @{Add="MicrosoftNinja/*","*Teams/*","SkypeSpaces/*"}
The administrator can also check the affected mailbox with Get-CASMailbox <UserPrincipalName> | Select-Object Ews* and confirm that EwsEnabled is not False. For a delegator-specific configuration, Microsoft documents allowing *SchedulingService* on the delegator’s mailbox. These are tenant-level administration changes; regular users should give the commands to their Microsoft 365 administrator rather than running them themselves.
Other causes administrators should check
If the Teams calendar itself is unavailable, open the Teams admin center and go to Users > Manage users. Select the affected user, choose View policies, and inspect the assigned App setup policy. The Calendar app should be present; its app ID is ef56c0de-36fc-4ef8-b417-3d82ba9d073c. Also check that the user’s coexistence mode is not Skype for Business only or Skype for Business with Teams collaboration.

- Massive Expansion: Turn one of your laptop’s USB-C ports into 11 with a 10 Gbps USB-C data port, a 10 Gbps USB-A data port, a 4K HDMI port, a 4K DisplayPort, a 100W USB-C Power Delivery input port, two 480 Mbps USB-A data ports, an Ethernet port, an AUX port, and microSD / SD card slots.

- Multi-Monitor Display: Connect to the DisplayPort and HDMI port to enjoy crystal-clear streaming or mirroring across 2 displays at up to 2K@60Hz with a DP 1.4 laptop or 1080p@60Hz with a DP 1.2 laptop. Note: For macOS, the display on both external monitors will be identical.
- Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while accessing the hub’s other functions. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included).
- Note: The hub supports display outputs only through HDMI and DP ports; it does not support display outputs through USB-C ports.
Outlook security policy can also block the add-in. Administrators should inspect the Outlook and Cloud Policy security paths for programmatic-access restrictions. If Configure trusted add-ins is enforced, Microsoft.Teams.AddinLoader.dll must be trusted with the correct hash. Because Teams updates the DLL automatically, a hard-coded old hash can stop working after an update.
Teams and other meeting providers
If Teams is the only online-meeting provider, Outlook selects it automatically. If another provider such as Zoom, Webex, GoTo, Google Meet, or JioMeet is installed, you can select a preferred provider where your Outlook version supports it. Skype for Business choices depend on assigned licenses and coexistence mode.
Partner-provider COM add-ins are not supported by Outlook’s Add online meeting to all meetings feature. In some configurations, both Teams and the partner add-in can insert meeting details into the same appointment. If an event contains two sets of join instructions, disable the unwanted provider’s automatic scheduling or create the event with only one provider selected.
FAQ
Do I need to install a Teams add-in in new Outlook?
No. New Outlook for Windows has Teams scheduling built in and does not use a separately installed Teams COM add-in. Sign in to Outlook and the new Teams client with the same work or school account.
Why is the Teams button missing in classic Outlook?
The Teams desktop client may be closed, the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office may be disabled or unregistered, Outlook and Teams may be running at different privilege levels, or your account may not be a supported Microsoft 365 Business Exchange account.
Can I add Teams to a Gmail or personal Outlook account?
Microsoft does not support creating Teams meetings through the Outlook add-in with personal Microsoft accounts or POP/IMAP accounts such as Gmail, Yahoo, or iCloud. Use a supported Microsoft 365 Business Exchange account.
Why does a saved Outlook draft have no Teams link?
In new Outlook, Teams join details are added after you select Send. Save as draft does not add the join information. Also check that the event has attendees and is no longer than 24 hours.
Can I remove Teams after sending the invitation?
Microsoft supports removing Teams while the invitation is being created. After the invitation has been sent, Teams cannot be removed using the normal meeting-form toggle.

Use the built-in Teams meeting toggle in new Outlook, Outlook on the web, and Outlook mobile. In classic Outlook for Windows, look for the Microsoft Teams Meeting Add-in for Microsoft Office and repair its registration only if necessary. The key checks are account type, matching Outlook and Teams identities, the new-versus-classic Outlook distinction, and whether the event has attendees and is under 24 hours.
