Before buying an ad blocker advertised as a “lifetime deal,” check the license agreement for its exact duration, device and platform limits, transfer rules, seller authorization, and refund process. “Lifetime” does not mean the same thing in every contract: AdGuard describes its lifetime licenses as perpetual, while AdLock defines a lifetime license as 10 years from key activation.
Start with the license agreement, not the deal headline
“Lifetime” is a marketing label unless the license terms explain what it means. Read the EULA or other contract for the exact product and offer you plan to buy. In the terms reviewed on October 3, 2026, AdGuard describes its lifetime licenses as perpetual. AdLock’s EULA states: “Lifetime license means 10 years from the date of the key activation.” These are vendor-specific examples, not a universal definition of a software lifetime license.

Compare what each license actually includes
Device count, operating-system coverage, and regional restrictions determine whether a license fits your situation. The following are terms described on the vendors’ official pages reviewed on October 3, 2026; confirm that the same terms apply to the offer you are considering.

The table summarizes the cited official vendor documents, not a guarantee that every reseller listing has those same terms. A device limit is also not the same as broad platform coverage: verify both before checkout.
Check the seller and the activation route
If you are not buying directly from the vendor, establish who is selling the license and who will support the transaction. AdGuard says distributors also sell its licenses and that availability varies by country; its EULA says only authorized partners may resell or sublicense the software. Look for the seller in the vendor’s partner information where available, and ask the vendor if you cannot confirm authorization.
- Confirm whether the vendor or reseller issues the key and where you activate it.
- Find out whether the license is tied to an account, a device, or both.
- Check who handles a key that fails, a duplicate key, or an activation problem.
- Save the offer page, checkout terms, receipt, and any seller messages.
Match the refund policy to the place you pay
A refund statement on a vendor’s own purchase page does not necessarily control a purchase from another seller. Before paying, identify the refund deadline, any exclusions, the party that processes the request, and how to submit it. The official AdGuard license page states a 30-day refund policy, and the AdLock purchase page displays a 30-day money-back guarantee; verify whether the exact reseller offer adopts those terms.

Plan for device replacement and reactivation
A long license term is useful only if you can keep using it when you replace a computer or reinstall software. Read the license terms for unbinding, transfers, reactivation, and support rather than assuming a new device can simply take the old device’s place.
AdGuard’s EULA describes transferring a license by unbinding it from one computer and signing in on another. AdLock’s EULA leaves reactivation after computer or installation changes to the licensor’s discretion and says that reactivation right cannot be used with a lifetime license. That difference can matter more than the headline term if you expect to replace hardware.
Separate bundled services from the ad blocker license
A bundle can combine a lifetime ad blocker with a different product that renews. AdGuard VPN is a separate product, not part of the AdGuard Ad Blocker lifetime license by default. Its official terms describe monthly, one-year, and two-year subscriptions: monthly subscriptions are non-refundable, while one-year and two-year subscriptions purchased on AdGuard’s official site have a 30-day money-back guarantee. Check the duration, renewal, cancellation, and refund terms for every component separately.
Use this checklist before checkout
- Read the governing terms. Record the exact duration stated in the EULA for the product and license type being sold.
- Verify compatibility and capacity. Confirm the simultaneous device limit, supported operating systems, and any country or store restrictions.
- Validate the seller. Check authorization where the vendor provides partner information, and confirm who issues the key and supports activation.
- Write down the refund route. Note the deadline, exclusions, and whether the vendor or reseller processes refunds.
- Check replacement-device rules. Find out how unbinding, transfer, reactivation, and support work for this license type.
- Inspect every bundle component. Identify separate subscriptions and verify their renewal and refund terms.
- Compare equivalent alternatives. Use the actual checkout price and compare products with the same device count and term assumptions. Treat any payback calculation as an estimate based on those prices, not a guaranteed saving.
