Acer Aspire 7: At First Glance

On a close look at this laptop, it seems that Acer attempted to deliver a complete package. The Acer Aspire 7’s nice appearance and hardware specs are very impressive.

What’s more impressive is that Acer opted for a thinner and lighter form factor compared to the Acer Aspire 7 previous models. Unfortunately, this laptop isn’t one of those laptops with mind-blowing innovations.

Nevertheless, it looks like a laptop that emphasizes on professional outlook. Hence, the Acer Aspire 7 won’t look weird when you use it in any environment.

Acer Aspire 7: Design, Dimension, and Weight

As I mentioned in the last section, Acer Aspire 7 has a very simple design that prioritizes professionalism over elegance. As a result, this laptop fits into any type of setting.

This laptop has a black and gold theme like the HP Spectre. However, the Acer Aspire 7’s design is not very stylish, but simple and functional.

The Acer Aspire 7 has a matte black brushed metal finish. Overall, this laptop feels very nice.

Furthermore, this laptop is neither heavy nor too hefty. It weighs 2150 g and measures 363.2 x 254 x 23.3 mm.

Moreover, its build quality is excellent. Acer used a mix of materials for this laptop’s body construction.

The lid and the base of the laptop are made of metal. Meanwhile, the display is made of plastic.

Overall, the Acer Aspire 7 is very sturdy and has minimal flex on its body. For instance, you can feel very little flex in the keyboard deck when you press it.

The keyboard itself has a good tactile feel and it is good for typing. However, its keys feel slightly cramped up.

Below the keyboard, you get a very smooth touchpad that accommodates a fingerprint scanner on its top left corner.

Moving on to its ports, the Acer Aspire 7 offers 1 USB 3.0 port, 2 USB Type-A port, 1 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port. You also get 1 HDMI port, 1 RJ-45 Ethernet port, and a headphone jack.

In conclusion, the Acer Aspire 7 has a very solid, simple but attractive design. Therefore, it scores a seven in this review.

Acer Aspire 7: Processor (CPU) Performance

Acer equipped the Acer Aspire 7 with a quad-core Intel Core i5-9300H. This 9th gen i5 processor has a base frequency of 2.40 GHz and a maximum frequency of 4.10 GHz.

With this processor, the Acer Aspire 7 has enough power to handle regular computing operations including heavy ones. Web surfing, document editing, sending of emails, are all smooth on this laptop.

Moreover, this laptop scored 791 points on a Cinebench R15 multicore test, surpassing the average of 554 points. Acer Aspire 7 also surpassed the HP Omen 15 that scored 769 points.

However, it couldnt surpass the ASUS TUF FX505 laptop that scored 799 points.

Nonetheless, the Acer Aspire 7 offers excellent processing power. Therefore, it scores an eight in this CPU review.

Acer Aspire 7: Memory (RAM) Performance

Acer ships the Acer Aspire 7 with an 8 GB DDR4 SDRAM. The laptop offers 2 memory slots but supports a maxim RAM size of 8 GB.

The Acer Aspire 7 performed beyond my expectations when I placed it on a RAM performance test. This laptop ran smoothly with 20 Chrome browser tabs opened.

Moreover, two of the tabs were streaming 1080p YouTube videos. During this entire process, the Acer Aspire 7 didn’t slow down a bit.

Also, this laptop scored an impressive 7202 points in a PCMark 10 productivity test. It surpassed the average category score of 499 points.

The Acer Aspire 7 also surpassed the ASUS TUF FX505 laptop that scored 6518 points. However, the HP Omen 15 did better with a score of 7261 points.

Overall, the Acer Aspire 7 offers an above-average RAM performance. Therefore, it scores an eight in this RAM performance review.

Acer Aspire 7: Storage Options and Performance

The Acer Aspire 7 features a 512 GB SSD. This laptop doesn’t offer an SD card option for storage expansion.

Out of this 512 GB SSD, only about 442 GB is readily available for your use. This is because the laptop’s Windows 10 Operating System uses a portion of the storage.

With 512 GB SSD, the Acer Aspire 7 offers good storage speeds. On a CrystalDiskMark test, it recorded a sequential read speed of 1564 MBps and a sequential write speed of 983.8 MBps.

However, the HP Omen 15 offered better speeds. It recorded a sequential read speed of 2068 MBps and a sequential write speed of 1964 MBps.

Nevertheless, the Acer Aspire 7 scored an eight in this review for its good storage speed.

Acer Aspire 7: Graphics Card Performance

The Acer Aspire 7 features a dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 GPU. This GPU has a base frequency of 1410 MHz and a boost frequency of 1590 MHz.

The GPU comes with a 4 GB GDDR6 dedicated VRAM to improve the performance of the graphics card.

Hence, the Acer Aspire 7 has enough GPU power to play most games easily. In most cases, you can play most games at Full HD resolution and at medium to high settings.

At Ultra high settings, the Acer Aspire 7 played BioShock Infinite at 88 FPS, The Witcher at 38 FPS, World of Tanks enCore at 77 FPS. Even Call of Duty Black Ops was no issue for the Acer Aspire 7 – it played the game at 69 FPS.

Hence, it scores a nine in this review for its excellent gaming performance.

Acer Aspire 7: Battery Life and Performance

The Acer Aspire 7 comes with a 3-Cell Lithium-ion battery. Acer claims that this laptop can last up to 8.5 hours.

When placed on a battery test, the laptop nearly offered the complete advertised battery time. The Acer Aspire 7 lasted 8 hours.

Moreover, the Acer Aspire 7 completely outlasted its competitors. It lasted longer than the HP Omen 15 that lasted 6 hours 15 minutes.

It also outlasted the ASUS TUF FX505 laptop that lasted 4 hours 15 minutes. As expected, the Acer Aspire 7surpassed the category average battery life of 4 hours 30 minutes.

Therefore, it scores an eight in this review for its long battery life.
