ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE has a promising musical identity, but the evidence available at launch does not prove it has the year’s best video game music. The official release so far is a single: “Everflow,” the game’s main theme. Bandai Namco’s story material also gives music a meaningful role among the characters. That makes the soundtrack worth watching, not yet a confirmed winner over other 2026 scores.
What music from ACE COMBAT 8 is available?
Bandai Namco Game Music announced “ACE COMBAT 8: WINGS OF THEVE Main Theme – Everflow” as a one-track digital release, available worldwide on major streaming services, including Apple Music and Spotify, from September 17, 2026. The game launched globally on October 2, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, according to the official game page and the label’s soundtrack announcement.
That release establishes the main theme’s availability; it is not a complete game soundtrack. The announcement gives no full ACE COMBAT 8 track list and does not name a composer for “Everflow” in its text. It also lists other September releases for the franchise’s 30th anniversary: a 20-track anniversary concert album and a 45-track remastered ACE COMBAT ZERO soundtrack. Those are separate releases, not additional tracks from ACE COMBAT 8.
Why music matters to the game’s story
Bandai Namco Europe frames music as part of the narrative, not merely background for flying. Its September 29 feature says the story uses music to connect comrades, express national identity and purpose, and remember those who sacrificed themselves. The publisher writes: “Through characters who are themselves musicians, the game’s story explores how even in war, music acts as a point of connection between comrades, as a signal of national identity and purpose, or as the voices of those who sacrificed themselves in hopes for a brighter future.”

The feature also describes a promotional collaboration with violinist Lindsey Stirling. In a tribute video made with Bandai Namco and PROJECT ACES, Stirling performs “Hortus Regis Alti” (“The Garden of the High King”) as Tasha Severskaya, a character in the game. The feature reports more than 2.2 billion Spotify streams and more than 4 billion YouTube views for Stirling’s music videos; those are career figures attributed to the publisher, not measures of ACE COMBAT 8’s reception. The collaboration offers a window into the game’s musical themes, but it does not establish Stirling as composer of the full score or provide soundtrack credits. What would make it the year’s best soundtrack?
“Best” is a critical judgment, not a fact established by the available releases. A persuasive case will depend on more than a strong main theme. Useful criteria include whether the score has a distinctive melodic identity, how its musical ideas develop across missions, whether its sound supports the story and combat, and whether the complete score is available to hear and evaluate. The released single and official story material support interest in those questions, but do not answer them for the whole game.

One character detail offers another hint about music’s place in the campaign: PlayStation Blog describes Joker Squadron pilot William Coster as a devoted rock fan who takes a compact music player into the cockpit for missions. That is a detail about Coster, not evidence that the full score is rock-oriented or that the game uses adaptive music. The PlayStation Blog post also identifies the October 2 global release date.

The official game page lists a Joker Flight Pack containing the game, a history book of more than 200 pages, and two LPs. That supports describing a physical music collectible in the bundle; the listing does not establish that the LPs are a standalone ACE COMBAT 8 soundtrack or contain the complete score. It is also separate from the digital anniversary concert and ACE COMBAT ZERO releases described by Bandai Namco Game Music.
