What is known about Ace Combat 8 S-rank requirements?
Campaign S-rank criteria are mission-specific. PowerPyx’s October 1, 2026 Ace-difficulty walkthrough says exact score requirements vary by mission and considers time, enemy destruction, bonus targets, and mission objectives. It does not establish one score target that applies across the campaign.
Bandai Namco’s official game overview describes mission preparation and objectives but does not publish numeric campaign S-rank cutoffs. Redfreshet’s guide, dated October 1, 2026 and based on the Deluxe Edition early-access version, likewise says it could not verify guaranteed score and time values for all 30 missions.

That means a score or time figure should be treated as a confirmed requirement only when it has been verified for the specific mission, difficulty, and game version. A community post about Mission 28 suggested aiming for 156,000 destruction score, but the player explicitly said they were unsure that it was the actual requirement. It is a provisional player target, not an official cutoff.
How to plan an S-rank attempt
1. Read the briefing and identify the scoring opportunity
Before launching, note the objective, target types, and any time pressure. Missions can involve dogfights, ground support, or naval strikes, so the most efficient route and useful weapons depend on the target mix. 2. Choose aircraft and special weapons for that mission
Match your aircraft and special weapon to the targets you need to engage, then consider how quickly you can reach them and whether your ammunition and flexibility will cover later objective phases. Bandai Namco’s walkthrough and customization guidance recommends adapting aircraft to the mission; PlayStation.Blog describes more than 30 aircraft across fighter, attack, multi-role, and electronic-warfare roles. No single loadout is established as best for every mission.

4. Finish staged objectives efficiently
When the mission has a timed or staged objective, avoid unnecessary pursuit once you have a reasonable score margin and focus on completing the required objective. The balance differs by mission, so do not assume that maximizing destruction score is always better than finishing promptly.
5. Replay to refine your route
PowerPyx recommends using Free Mission to replay missions and access unlocked custom aircraft. Use replays to test a more suitable loadout, improve the order in which you engage targets, and remove wasted travel or pursuit. If a major mistake leaves the run well behind pace, restarting may be more useful than continuing; that is a practical guide recommendation, not a rank rule.

Do checkpoints, damage, or multiplayer rank affect campaign S ranks?
The available evidence does not establish that taking damage or restarting from a checkpoint automatically prevents a campaign S rank. PowerPyx says a checkpoint restart does not automatically disqualify an S rank on some missions, though it can make the target harder. Do not assume that every mission handles a restart the same way.
Keep campaign rank separate from online rank and rewards. Bandai Namco’s overview discusses mission-clear ranks and rewards in the multiplayer context; that information does not establish campaign S-rank criteria.
