Inclusive design can help your organization reach people who might otherwise face barriers to discovering, understanding, or using its digital experiences. Accessibility can improve the customer experience and expand potential market reach, but it does not guarantee more sales or a particular return. The practical case is to remove avoidable barriers throughout the customer journey, use standards suited to your context, and measure what changes.
How accessibility can help marketing reach more customers
Marketing depends on people being able to encounter and use content: read a page, navigate a campaign, watch or understand media, and complete a form or purchase. When an experience creates barriers, some prospective customers may be unable to engage with it. Inclusive design treats those barriers as product and service quality problems to identify and address, rather than as a narrow afterthought.
The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) describes possible business benefits of digital accessibility that include innovation, stronger brand presence, improved user experience, broader market reach, and reduced legal risk. These are potential outcomes, not guaranteed results for every organization or campaign. W3C’s business-case resource, updated July 15, 2024, estimates that at least one billion people—15% of the world’s population—have a recognized disability. It also describes an extended market of 2.3 billion people controlling an incremental $6.9 trillion in annual disposable income. Those are broad estimates, not a forecast of your addressable audience, customers, or revenue. Read W3C’s Business Case for Digital Accessibility.
Accessibility also supports people whose needs arise from a temporary condition, environment, or situation. A clear structure, captions, and usable controls can help many people, but the core goal is to make the experience work for people with varied access needs—not to assume that one design choice benefits everyone in the same way.

What accessible marketing includes
Accessibility applies across the customer journey, not just to a landing page or a final compliance check. Review the content and interactions people need to discover, understand, and act on your message.
- Content: use meaningful headings, clear language, descriptive link text, and text alternatives for informative images.
- Navigation and interaction: ensure people can find and operate controls, links, menus, and forms, including when they do not use a mouse.
- Media: provide appropriate alternatives such as captions or transcripts so information is not conveyed only through audio or visuals.
- Forms and conversion steps: make instructions, labels, errors, and next steps understandable and usable.
- Campaign destinations: evaluate the whole path from an advertisement or email through the page and any sign-up or purchase interaction, not merely the creative asset.
These examples are starting points, not a complete technical checklist. The relevant requirements depend on the content, technology, audience, and applicable standards.
How to build accessibility into a marketing workflow
1. Find barriers along the customer journey
Map the steps from first contact to the action your campaign asks someone to take. Look for places where content, navigation, media, forms, or interactions may prevent someone from proceeding. Prioritize barriers that block essential information or completion of the journey.

2. Choose standards for your context
For web content, use the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) as a central reference. Other standards may matter depending on geography, procurement requirements, and the organization. Microsoft, for example, identifies WCAG, U.S. Section 508, and European EN 301 549 among the standards it considers and documents in Accessibility Conformance Reports. This is context, not legal advice; determine which laws and standards apply to your own organization and verify current versions and requirements.

3. Include accessibility in design, implementation, and content
Address access needs while planning and producing a campaign, then carry them through design, development, and content review. Microsoft’s inclusive-design guidance frames exclusion as a mismatch between a person’s needs and the service, product, or environment offered. That framing encourages teams to examine the experience itself rather than treating the person as the problem. Microsoft Learn: Designing inclusive software for Windows.

4. Evaluate, learn, and remediate iteratively
Use accessibility tools to help locate issues, then assess the experience with people-centered evaluation and assistive technology as appropriate. Microsoft’s Accessibility Resources identifies Accessibility Insights as an open-source issue-finding tool. An automated tool can help surface some problems; the cited resources do not establish that any one tool proves an entire digital experience fully accessible. Fix findings, check the affected journey again, and incorporate what you learn into future work. Accessibility Insights.
5. Measure outcomes without promising a predetermined lift
Track measures relevant to the campaign and customer journey—for example, whether people can complete key steps and how the experience performs after barriers are addressed. Interpret changes in light of other factors that affect campaign results. Broad population and market estimates establish context; they do not demonstrate that a particular accessibility change caused incremental revenue or a specific conversion improvement.

What accessibility can—and cannot—promise the business
The business case is strongest when it connects accessibility work to real customer needs and a specific experience. An organization may improve usability, include more potential customers, support its brand, or reduce some forms of risk. The size and existence of those outcomes depend on the organization, implementation, and audience; the broad W3C estimates should not be presented as the revenue available to an individual business.

Accessibility is also an ongoing quality practice. Standards, technologies, content, and customer journeys change, so a one-time review or an automated scan should not be treated as a permanent guarantee. Applicable legal obligations vary by jurisdiction and context; consult qualified counsel for legal advice.

For teams documenting how a campaign page renders, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A screenshot can support visual review or documentation, but it does not establish that a page is accessible; it complements, rather than replaces, accessibility evaluation.

One GET request can return a page capture. Replace the example URL with the page you need, and use your ScreenshotNeo API key:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does accessible marketing guarantee higher conversions?
No. Accessibility can remove barriers and support a better experience, but the result for a particular campaign depends on its audience, implementation, and other factors.
Does a screenshot prove that a page is accessible?
No. A screenshot records a page’s appearance; it does not establish that the page is usable with assistive technology or meets accessibility requirements.
