Abhishek Bachchan said he would love to make a “Kajra Re 2.0,” but his comment is an expression of interest—not an announcement that a new version is in development. He added that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and his father, Amitabh Bachchan, would need convincing.
What Abhishek Bachchan said about ‘Kajra Re 2.0’
In comments attributed to an interview with BBC Asian Network, Abhishek said: “I’m down for that. I’d love it. You have got to convince Aishwarya and my dad, though.” The remark signals his own enthusiasm; the reports do not say that Aishwarya or Amitabh has agreed to take part, or that a project has been confirmed. The Indian Express and Hindustan Times published their reports on October 2, 2026, attributing the comments to that interview.

Why he remembers the original shoot fondly
Abhishek described filming the song as one of the most enjoyable song shoots he could remember. He recalled that it was his birthday and the crew celebrated. According to his account, director Shaad Ali played the song for about four hours, turning the set into a dance party. Abhishek said Ali filmed some of the spontaneous dancing and used shots of the performers having fun in the song.

How ‘Kajra Re’ fits into ‘Bunty Aur Babli’
“Kajra Re” appeared in the 2005 film Bunty Aur Babli and featured Abhishek, Amitabh Bachchan, and Aishwarya Rai. The Indian Express reports that Abhishek played a con artist alongside Rani Mukerji, Amitabh played the police officer pursuing them, and Aishwarya appeared in a cameo for the song.
The Indian Express credits Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy with composing the number, Alisha Chinai, Shankar Mahadevan, and Javed Ali with singing it, and Vaibhavi Merchant with choreographing it. Its combination of the three Bachchans in a lively dance number is the context for Abhishek’s suggestion that another version could be fun.
