To learn cloud engineering on your own, build core IT skills, choose one cloud provider, follow its role-based training, and practise by deploying and managing real resources. Use certification guides as optional structure—not as a substitute for practical work or a guarantee of employment.
What to learn first: the foundations
Cloud services sit on top of familiar computing and networking concepts. Before concentrating on a provider’s console, build enough foundation to understand what your deployments are doing.
- Networking: Learn the basics of IP addressing, DNS, routing, subnets, and how services communicate.
- Linux: Practise navigating the command line, managing files and processes, and reading logs.
- Programming or scripting: Learn enough to automate repetitive work and understand how an application is built and run.
- Cloud concepts: Understand how on-demand infrastructure and managed services fit together, including the responsibilities you retain when using a provider’s services.
Google Cloud’s career guidance identifies programming, networking, basic Linux skills, and deploying what you build as useful areas for a cloud career project. Google Cloud’s guidance on beginning a cloud career
Choose one cloud provider to learn deeply
Start with AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud. The right first choice depends on the role or project you are aiming for, whether a school or employer already uses a provider, and which official learning path and practice environment you can access. The available learning resources do not establish a universal best provider or a current ranking by job demand.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
At the beginning, focus on one platform rather than trying to learn all three equally. That gives you a chance to understand a provider’s services and deployment workflow in context. You can compare platforms or add a second one later if a target role calls for it.
| Provider | What its official learning resources offer | Useful selection question |
|---|---|---|
| AWS | Self-paced digital training and role- or domain-based learning plans. AWS Training and Certification | Does your target role or current environment point to AWS? |
| Microsoft Azure | Azure learning paths, including beginner material on cloud concepts, architecture and services, and management and governance. Microsoft Learn training for Azure | Would Azure fit the work or environment you want to practise for? |
| Google Cloud | Certification learning paths with on-demand courses and labs. Google Cloud certifications | Can you follow a Google Cloud path and use its associated practice resources? |
Course and path contents can change, so use these live official catalogues rather than relying on a fixed course list.

Follow a learning path, then deploy something
Use the chosen provider’s training to learn its core services and terminology, but connect study to practical work. A project helps you test whether you can apply concepts rather than only recognize them in a lesson.
- Choose a beginner or role-based path in the provider’s official training catalogue. Follow its sequence instead of jumping randomly among services.
- Practise each new concept in the provider’s labs or tutorials where available. Keep notes on what you configured and why.
- Build a small project that has a clear purpose, such as deploying an application or service you have built. Start with resources you can explain and manage.
- Review and improve the deployment. Make sure you can describe the resources involved, how they fit together, and how you would manage or remove them.
For a second practical step, learn infrastructure as code after you can explain the infrastructure you are asking it to create. HashiCorp’s tutorials cover creating, managing, and destroying Terraform infrastructure on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. HashiCorp Tutorials

Use certifications as optional structure
A certification path can help organize study around a defined role or exam. AWS exam guides publish target-candidate descriptions, exam outlines, and in-scope services; Google Cloud recommends reviewing the relevant exam guide and provides a learning path for each certification. Explore the official material for the provider you chose: AWS Certification Exam Guides and Google Cloud certifications.
Treat an exam as one possible milestone. Studying for it can give your learning a clear scope, but passing an exam by itself does not establish that you can deploy and manage systems in a particular job, nor does it guarantee employment.

Extend the roadmap toward a specific role
Once you have foundational skills, one provider’s services, and practical deployment experience, use the role you want to pursue to decide what to learn next. Read the responsibilities and technical requirements for that role, then deepen the relevant areas and build projects that let you practise them.
There is no universally required stack in this roadmap. The available provider resources do not show that every learner must study Kubernetes, learn a second cloud, or earn a particular certification. Add a technology when it supports your target role or project, not simply because it appears on a generic checklist.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsBest Value

How to judge your progress—and your timeline
There is no general study duration or job-readiness deadline established by the learning resources described here. Progress depends on your prior experience, the time you can devote, the role you are targeting, your location, and hiring conditions. Instead of treating a fixed timeline as a promise, check whether you can:
- Explain the basic networking and Linux concepts your project uses.
- Describe why you selected the cloud services and how they work together.
- Deploy, manage, and remove the resources you created.
- Use the provider’s documentation or training to investigate a problem you encounter.
- Identify the next skills your target role actually requires.
These checks are practical learning goals, not a guarantee of a job or a substitute for an employer’s requirements.
