The October 2, 2026 report that A.J. Greer was “set to play Friday” is now a past-game update: Greer appeared for Anaheim, assisted on a Leo Carlsson goal, and the Ducks beat Vegas 4-3. The pregame report expected Greer to skate at even strength with Carlsson and Cutter Gauthier, but did not establish that as a lasting line assignment.
What the pregame report said
Before Anaheim’s October 2 season opener against the Vegas Golden Knights, CBS Sports/RotoWire reported that Greer was set to return after dealing with an upper-body injury during preseason. It expected him to play at even strength alongside Carlsson and Gauthier, while noting that his place in that spot was uncertain. That was a pregame expectation, not confirmation of a permanent line combination. CBS Sports/RotoWire’s pregame report

What this update does—and does not—establish
Greer did play in the opener, so the reported expectation was fulfilled. The game record confirms his appearance and assist; it does not show that the expected Carlsson-Gauthier line placement would continue. Nor does this completed-game report establish Greer’s availability or line assignment for any later game.
