The project’s current FAQ names additional official binary platforms, including Android and Switch Homebrew, as well as unofficial iOS availability and select BSD packages; that broader current-platform list does not establish that 1.2 had packages for those systems.
Should you download 1.2 or the current stable release?
Choose based on the version you need. The project’s official download page identifies 1.5 as its last stable release, while 1.2 is the older version announced on August 27, 2020. For a new installation, start at the official download page. Use the 1.2 archive if you specifically need that release.

The project’s release history shows releases after 1.2. Version labels and download availability can change, so consult the official download page for the project’s current stable listing.
Is SuperTuxKart a Mario Kart clone?
“Mario Kart-style” is a useful way to describe the broad appeal of a kart racer, but SuperTuxKart’s developers reject the “clone” label. The official FAQ says the games have major differences and that SuperTuxKart is developing in its own direction. It is better understood as a distinct free kart racer that may interest fans of Mario Kart, rather than a copy of that series.

Can you use a controller with SuperTuxKart 1.2?
Yes. The game supports keyboard, gamepad, and gaming-wheel input, according to the project FAQ. If you prefer a gamepad, the FAQ recommends one with at least six buttons; it does not establish compatibility for every individual controller model.
Controller handling was a specific focus of the 1.2 release. In its August 27, 2020 announcement, the team said it moved window creation and input handling from Irrlicht to SDL2, and highlighted improved gamepad handling, hotplugging, bug fixes, and easier control remapping. Hotplugging means connecting or disconnecting a gamepad while the game is running. These are release-level improvements, not a guarantee that every device will work identically.
