The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G and Google Pixel 10a had nearly identical announced US starting prices: $499.99 for the A56 in July 2025 and $499 for the Pixel 10a in February 2026. That $0.99 difference compares launch-era starting prices, not current offers or matching storage configurations. The A56 has the larger display; the Pixel is smaller and adds Qi-certified wireless charging. Which is the better buy depends on current same-storage pricing and which features matter most.

How much cheaper is the Pixel 10a?

On announced US starting prices, the Pixel 10a was $0.99 less: Google announced it at $499 on February 18, 2026, while Samsung’s US newsroom reported the Galaxy A56 5G available starting at $499.99 on July 18, 2025. Google said Pixel 10a preorders would begin March 5, 2026. These dates and prices describe launches, not today’s retailer prices.

The starting prices are not confirmed as a like-for-like comparison of storage tiers. Both phones are listed in 128GB and 256GB versions, so check the price for the capacity you actually want in your region. Current promotions, carrier offers, and availability can change the practical difference.

Display: choose between a larger screen and a smaller phone

The A56’s 6.7-inch display is 0.4 inches larger diagonally than the Pixel 10a’s 6.3-inch display. Samsung identifies its panel as FHD+ Super AMOLED. Google lists a 1080 × 2424 pOLED panel with a 60–120Hz refresh rate. The A56 is the straightforward choice if screen size is the priority; the Pixel’s smaller panel may suit someone who prefers a more compact device.

Brightness numbers need context. Samsung’s global launch announcement gives up to 1,200 nits, while Google’s specification page lists up to 2,000 nits HDR and 3,000 nits peak. The sources do not establish matching test conditions, so these figures are not a controlled brightness comparison or a guarantee of what you will see in every setting.

Performance, storage, and cameras

Processor and memory

Google lists Tensor G4 and 8GB of RAM for the Pixel 10a. The retrieved Samsung US materials do not provide a clear, matched processor-and-RAM configuration for the A56, so the available evidence cannot establish a performance or gaming winner. Samsung’s India launch story identifies Exynos 1580, but a regional chipset reference should not be assumed to describe every US or other-market configuration.

Storage

Both phones are available in 128GB and 256GB variants in the cited US launch materials. Confirm the capacity attached to any advertised price before comparing deals.

Cameras

Samsung lists a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and 5MP macro rear-camera array, plus a 12MP front camera. Google’s launch announcement promotes Pixel camera and AI features, but the retrieved specification excerpt does not give corresponding camera sensor details. Megapixel counts alone cannot establish image quality, and there are no controlled camera results here to rank the phones.

Battery and charging

Samsung specifies a 5,000mAh typical battery and 45W charging support. Google lists a 5,100mAh typical battery (5,000mAh minimum), Qi-certified wireless charging, and wired charging up to 50% in about 30 minutes when using a 45W USB-C PPS charger or higher sold separately. Check charger compatibility; Google’s stated wired-charge figure is tied to that charger requirement.

Google also claims 30+ hours of battery life and up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver. Samsung claims up to 29 hours of video viewing time for the A56. These are different manufacturer claims and use cases, not comparable independent battery tests; capacity and advertised duration do not determine which phone will last longer in your routine.

Software support and durability

Samsung says the A56 supports up to six generations of Android OS and One UI upgrades and six years of security updates. Samsung also notes that update availability and timing can vary by model and market. Google’s Pixel 10a launch announcement describes seven years of software updates, but the retrieved hardware specification excerpt does not break that promise into the same OS-upgrade and security-update categories. Do not treat the two descriptions as a fully matched support-duration comparison.

For durability, Samsung lists IP67 protection and Gorilla Glass Victus+; Google lists Gorilla Glass 7i cover glass. The cited Google specification excerpt does not establish a Pixel 10a IP rating, so it cannot support a water-and-dust-resistance comparison. A protection rating is not a warranty against damage.

Which phone should you choose?

  • Choose the Galaxy A56 5G if you want the larger 6.7-inch screen, Samsung’s published update commitment, or its listed triple rear-camera setup.
  • Consider the Pixel 10a if you want a smaller 6.3-inch display, Qi-certified wireless charging, or Google’s Tensor G4 platform and listed 8GB RAM.
  • Compare current same-capacity offers before deciding on value. The historical starting-price gap was only $0.99, but it does not tell you which phone currently costs less for the same storage or with the same carrier terms.

For a confident overall winner, compare current regional model numbers and network compatibility, then consult independent testing for camera quality, sustained performance, battery life, and display behavior. The official specifications alone do not settle those questions.
