The claim that 65 billion messages are sent on WhatsApp every 24 hours is historical, not a current count. Check Point Research reported the figure in December 2019; Meta later said WhatsApp was handling more than 100 billion messages a day in October 2021. Neither figure establishes WhatsApp’s daily volume in 2026.
How many messages are sent on WhatsApp every day?
The most useful answer depends on the date and source. Check Point Research reported more than 65 billion WhatsApp messages per day on December 17, 2019. On October 14, 2021, Meta’s WhatsApp account said end-to-end encryption protected more than 100 billion messages a day. These are dated snapshots, not a current daily count or a controlled year-over-year comparison.
The 2019 Check Point release does not identify who originally measured or published the 65-billion figure, and it does not explain a measurement method. It is therefore best described as a figure reported by Check Point, rather than as a newly measured Meta statistic. Check Point Research’s December 2019 release
Is it really 65 billion WhatsApp messages every 24 hours?
It was a published claim about daily traffic in 2019. It should not be read as the number WhatsApp sends or receives each day now. Meta’s later official statement gave a higher figure: its October 2021 announcement said end-to-end encryption then protected more than 100 billion messages a day as they traveled between more than 2 billion users. The statement concerns WhatsApp, not a combined total across Meta messaging services. Meta’s October 2021 announcement

The two figures do not establish a precise growth rate. The available statements have different dates, and neither supplies a shared counting methodology that would make them a controlled comparison.
How many WhatsApp messages are sent per day now?
A current daily total is not established by the dated Meta figure. An Infobip roundup published in 2026 relays a claim of more than 150 billion messages per day as of June 2024, attributing it to SQ Magazine. That is secondary reporting, not a current figure confirmed in a direct Meta disclosure, so it should not be presented as WhatsApp’s verified 2026 volume. Infobip’s WhatsApp statistics roundup

Meta’s 2024 annual report says its estimates for Family metrics involve judgment and statistical uncertainty, and that it has fewer signals for WhatsApp accounts because of limited visibility into encrypted products. That caveat concerns estimates of audience size; it does not disprove a message-volume claim or provide a replacement daily message count. Meta’s 2024 Form 10-K and SEC filings

WhatsApp traffic includes private communication as well as business interactions, but the cited daily-volume statements do not break the total down by message type. Meta said in February 2020 that every private message sent using WhatsApp was protected with end-to-end encryption by default. That is a dated description of the product’s private messaging, not a separate count of messages or a statement about business-platform revenue. WhatsApp’s February 2020 announcement

Business messaging is part of WhatsApp’s commercial activity, but it should not be confused with the total message-volume figure. Meta’s fiscal 2024 Form 10-K said WhatsApp Business Platform revenue primarily drove a 63% increase in Family of Apps other revenue. The filing does not say that personal messages are paid or give a current per-message volume. Meta’s 2024 Form 10-K and SEC filings
