Mercor confirmed a security incident linked to compromised LiteLLM software in late March 2026. The widely reported figure of 4TB is an allegation attributed to the Lapsus$ extortion group and repeated in plaintiff-side litigation materials—not a volume independently verified in the sources reviewed. In its June 25 update, Mercor said a very limited subset of its experts had sensitive information affected, no employee data was affected, and it found no evidence of fraudulent use.
What happened in the Mercor breach?
Mercor said malicious actors published compromised versions of LiteLLM designed to exfiltrate credentials from systems that installed them. The company determined that it was affected during the relevant period, moved to contain unauthorized activity, and investigated with outside specialists, including Google’s Mandiant and Latacora, as well as industry peers and law enforcement. Mercor announced on June 25, 2026, that its investigation was complete.
The public account does not detail the precise path from the compromised dependency to any alleged exfiltration, nor does it publish the underlying forensic report. In an April 1 report, The Record quoted Mercor spokesperson Heidi Hagberg saying, “Our security team moved promptly to contain and remediate the incident.”
What does the 4TB claim mean?
Lapsus$ reportedly claimed it obtained four terabytes of Mercor data. A law-firm alert carried by PR Newswire reported that claim, and Hausfeld LLP’s case page summarizes a complaint alleging approximately four terabytes of exfiltrated material. Those sources establish that the figure was publicly claimed and included in litigation allegations; they do not verify that amount. The reviewed sources contain no independently published forensic confirmation of the total.

Hausfeld’s 2026 summary of complaint allegations describes the claimed data this way:
| Alleged category | Alleged amount | What the source establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Candidate records, including resumes, contact information, and Social Security numbers | Approximately 211 GB | Hausfeld LLP’s summary of complaint allegations; not an independently verified exposure figure. |
| Video and identity-verification data | Approximately 3 TB | Hausfeld LLP’s summary of complaint allegations; not an independently verified exposure figure. |
| Source code and internal systems data | Approximately 939 GB | Hausfeld LLP’s summary of complaint allegations; not an independently verified exposure figure. |
| Total alleged exfiltration | Approximately 4 TB | Hausfeld LLP’s summary of complaint allegations; the total is not independently verified in the reviewed sources. |
The component amounts are allegations, not audited measurements. They should not be added or treated as proof that every listed category was exposed. The Hausfeld case page is a plaintiff law firm’s account of complaint allegations, not an independent forensic assessment.

What has Mercor said was affected?
In its June 25, 2026 update, Mercor said that only a “very limited subset” of its nearly five million experts had sensitive information affected. The company said it was notifying those individuals directly and offering them TransUnion identity protection services. Mercor also said customer information impact was very limited because many customers operated on their own platforms, and that no employee data was affected.
Mercor further stated, “There is no evidence that any of this data has been used fraudulently.” That is the company’s reported finding, not an independently published conclusion. Its public update does not identify affected individuals by name or provide a public lookup tool.

How can you find out if your information was affected?
According to Mercor’s public update, the company is contacting the individuals whose sensitive information was affected directly. The reviewed public sources do not describe another way for an individual to confirm their status. Do not assume that all Mercor applicants, experts, or former workers were affected: Mercor’s statement describes the impacted group as a very limited subset.
