A reported PTCL slowdown notice concerned planned submarine-cable repairs from May 11 to 18, 2026—not a disruption starting tomorrow, October 6. The notice warned of possible service degradation during evening hours, but did not quantify any speed loss or say all PTCL customers would be affected. No current PTCL or PTA notice confirming an October 6 disruption was located in the available reporting, so treat that timing as unverified.

What the PTCL notice said—and when

Pakistan Today reported on May 10, 2026, that PTCL expected possible internet service degradation during evening hours from May 11 through May 18 while an international cable consortium repaired a fault on one of PTCL’s submarine cables. Pakistan Today’s report describes a possibility, not a guaranteed outage. It does not specify a measured speed reduction, affected locations, or how many customers might notice an impact.

That window has passed. The available reporting does not establish that PTCL or the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a newer advisory for October 6, 2026. Check current PTCL and PTA notices before treating “from tomorrow” as an active warning.

Why submarine-cable maintenance can affect internet service

International submarine cables carry data between networks and destinations across borders. Repair work on a cable can affect the capacity or routing available to an internet provider while work is underway. The May notice named repair of a fault on one PTCL submarine cable as the reason for the possible degradation; it did not explain the technical details of that fault or say precisely how traffic would be routed.

TP-Link AX1800 WiFi 6 Router (Archer AX21 V5)
  • DUAL-BAND WIFI 6 ROUTER: Wi-Fi 6(802.11ax) technology achieves faster speeds, greater capacity and reduced network congestion compared to the previous gen. All WiFi routers require a separate modem. Dual-Band WiFi routers do not support the 6 GHz band.
  • AX1800: Enjoy smoother and more stable streaming, gaming, downloading with 1.8 Gbps total bandwidth (up to 1200 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz). Performance varies by conditions, distance to devices, and obstacles such as walls.
  • CONNECT MORE DEVICES: Wi-Fi 6 technology communicates more data to more devices simultaneously using revolutionary OFDMA technology
  • EXTENSIVE COVERAGE: Achieve the strong, reliable WiFi coverage with Archer AX1800 as it focuses signal strength to your devices far away using Beamforming technology, 4 high-gain antennas and an advanced front-end module (FEM) chipset
  • OUR CYBERSECURITY COMMITMENT: TP-Link is a signatory of the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency’s (CISA) Secure-by-Design pledge. This device is designed, built, and maintained, with advanced security as a core requirement.

Does this mean every PTCL customer will lose internet?

No. The report warned of possible degradation, particularly during evening hours, not a nationwide outage or a guaranteed loss of connectivity. It did not identify a specific city, customer group, or affected service, and it gave no event-specific figures for speed reductions, outages, or affected customers.

What to do if your PTCL connection is slow

If the problem coincides with a current official maintenance notice

  • Check PTCL’s current service updates and relevant PTA notices for the dates, hours, and services named.
  • If a notice matches the timing of your slowdown, note whether the issue is limited to particular services or affects your broader connection. The May 2026 report did not establish a specific customer-level pattern.

If the problem persists outside a notice’s stated window

Contact PTCL for diagnosis rather than assuming that cable maintenance is responsible. A router, modem, ONT, or Ethernet cable cannot repair an upstream submarine cable, and the May notice is not evidence that home equipment is defective.

Earlier cable reports are not an October 2026 warning

PTCL’s corporate LinkedIn account previously said additional bandwidth had largely resolved an earlier AAE-1 submarine-cable issue, while Meta-related services could still be slow during peak hours. PTCL.Official’s update is historical context; the available search result does not give its publication date, and it does not confirm a current disruption.

A National Assembly of Pakistan document also discussed 2024 complaints about slow service, particularly Meta services, and reported operator feedback indicating improvement by the first week of September 2024. The Assembly document concerns that earlier period, not the May 2026 repair or an October 2026 advisory.

Separately, the Associated Press of Pakistan reported in October 2025 on planned maintenance to repair a faulty repeater, expected to begin October 14 around 11 a.m. Pakistan time and last up to 18 hours. That 2025 report concerns a different maintenance window and should not be confused with the May 2026 notice.
