DesiCricketAdda grew from a simple idea: make following cricket scores, news, and discussion feel leaner and faster. In a first-person account published on DEV Community on September 22, 2026, its creator, medialinkstudio, describes how building the site exposed the hard parts of live-score products: handling sudden match-time traffic, keeping data fresh without overloading an API, and making the experience work on phones. The technical and analytics details below are the author’s account; they have not been independently verified.
What the project set out to do
The author describes wanting a quicker, less cluttered way to follow cricket. DesiCricketAdda was built as a place for scores, news, and discussion—not merely as a demonstration of a technology stack. The post presents the project as a personal account of decisions and lessons, rather than a formal case study with controlled performance measurements.
Why the author chose React, Express, and MongoDB
The reported stack was React on the frontend, Node.js with Express on the backend, and MongoDB for match data, player statistics, and articles. The author’s stated reason was practical: familiarity with these tools made it possible to move quickly. That is a project-specific explanation, not evidence that this combination is best for every cricket site.
How the live-score approach changed
Moving work away from each browser
Initially, the client polled a third-party scores API every 10 seconds. The author says this put pressure on the API and felt sluggish under load. The account describes shifting polling to the server, caching the results, and using WebSockets to send updates to connected clients. In this arrangement, browsers receive pushed updates rather than each independently repeating the same API request. The post does not provide request counts, latency figures, or a measured before-and-after comparison.
#1 Best Overall
- IT'S A LIGHT STRATEGY GAME WITH A TOUCH OF LUCK. Players take on the role of one of eight cricket teams competing in a championship. In each round, players bat and bowl one over using six dice. As the game progresses, players gain experience, allowing them to enhance their skills. The game lasts for five rounds (45-60 minutes) and offers four different ways to earn winning points.
- 2–5 PLAYERS, DESIGNED FOR ALL LEVELS OF EXPERIENCE. The game is made for both cricket fans and newcomers. No cricket knowledge is required to play, but the game can be a fun way to learn the basics! Its mechanics are easy to pick up while offering enough depth to keep things interesting across multiple plays.
- KICKSTARTED AND COMMUNITY-TESTED. The game was funded on Kickstarter by a global community of board gamers and cricket lovers. It’s been playtested across age groups and regions, with feedback helping refine gameplay into a smooth, balanced experience.
- HIGH REPLAYABILITY WITH MULTIPLE STRATEGIES. Will you go for high-risk sixes or a slow build-up with power cards? With each match playing out differently, no two games are ever the same. The more you play, the deeper your strategy gets.
Choosing a freshness policy
Caching can reduce repeated work, but live scores make delay visible: a cache that is useful for reducing load can also show an outdated score. The author’s takeaway is to decide explicitly how stale cached data may become. A practical implementation needs to make that limit part of the design, rather than treating “cached” as automatically fast enough. The post does not state a specific cache lifetime or freshness target.
Why peak match traffic matters more than the average
Cricket usage is uneven in the author’s account: traffic can rise around the start of a match or during a close finish. After the site struggled during a tense chase, the author says Redis was added ahead of database calls, static assets were moved to a CDN, and basic rate limiting was introduced. These are reported responses to a particular project’s experience, not independently tested capacity improvements.

- Cricket Showdown is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn cricket card game that brings the excitement of real cricket into quick, fun matches. Designed for kids, teens, and families, the game combines strategy, luck, and classic cricket moments like runs, wickets, and boundaries. Each round is quick and energetic, making it perfect for family game night, parties, classrooms, or travel. With simple rules and short playtime, Cricket Showdown is easy for beginners to learn while still engaging for experienced cricket fans.
The underlying lesson is to plan for the moments when many people check the same match at once. Average traffic can conceal the short, sharp demand that arrives with a big event or a dramatic finish. As medialinkstudio puts it: “Don’t optimize for average traffic — optimize for your worst-case spike, because that’s the moment users actually judge you.”
SEO and performance were connected
The author reports adopting server-side rendering, structured data for match results, cleaner URLs, and image compression. These choices address different parts of a site: rendering can make page content available without relying entirely on client-side work; structured data can describe results in a machine-readable form; and clearer URLs and smaller images support discoverability and efficient loading. The account does not report search-ranking changes or quantify the effect of any individual change.

Designing for phone visitors
Medialinkstudio says close to 80% of DesiCricketAdda’s visitors used phones, based on the author’s own analytics. That figure applies to this site as reported in the 2026 post; it should not be read as a general statistic about cricket audiences. The author says visitors often had patchy connections while following a match, so the site prioritized a compact scorecard for small screens, lazy loading for content below the fold, and a lightweight live-score widget.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What this account does—and does not—establish
The post is useful as a builder’s account of trade-offs: repeated client requests can strain an API; server-side polling and pushed updates change where that work happens; caching requires a freshness decision; and match-time peaks deserve attention in capacity planning. It does not provide independent measurements, a detailed architecture diagram, exact scaling limits, or verification of the project’s current implementation. Its strongest contribution is the reasoning behind the changes, not a benchmark that proves a particular stack or configuration will work elsewhere.
