Its standout feature is a floating design intended to right itself so the drivers face upward; Soundcore also rates it IP68 and claims enhanced saltwater resistance. It is less of an all-purpose pick if your priority is maximum loudness, broader speaker-linking options, or 360-degree sound.
This review assesses published specifications and comparison information, not hands-on testing. Soundcore’s US store listed the Boom 3i at $129.99 on October 5, 2026; price and availability can change.
What is the Soundcore Boom 3i?
The Boom 3i is a portable outdoor Bluetooth speaker from soundcore, Anker Innovations’ audio brand. Anker announced it on June 18, 2025. The manufacturer lists 50W output, Bluetooth 5.3, RGB lighting, TWS stereo pairing, a siren, a Voice Amplifier feature, Buzz Clean, and an auto-upright floating design. It weighs 780 g (27.5 oz) and measures 8.27 × 3.35 × 3.09 inches, according to Soundcore’s US product listing.
Those features make it a specialized outdoor speaker rather than simply a conventional portable speaker with a waterproof rating. Its design is especially relevant when music will be playing near or on the water.

Does the Boom 3i float, and is it waterproof?
Yes. Soundcore says the Boom 3i floats and is designed to correct its orientation so it stays upright, with sound directed upward, even as it moves through waves. That is a useful distinction from a speaker that merely remains afloat but ends up with its drivers pointed into the water. It is a design claim, not a guarantee that the speaker cannot tip, sink, or be damaged in every circumstance.
Soundcore rates the speaker IP68. Anker’s June 2025 launch announcement states the submersion conditions as up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. Treat that as the manufacturer’s specified test condition, not permission for unlimited submersion. Soundcore’s support FAQ says to make sure the USB port cover is fully closed before use.

Saltwater and drops
Anker says the speaker underwent up to 240 hours of salt-spray testing without corrosion, under conditions it describes as ASTM G85-equivalent. It also claims five times the saltwater resistance of conventional speakers and says the Boom 3i can withstand a drop from up to one meter onto concrete. These are manufacturer claims, not independent comparative findings or a promise that salt, sand, or impact cannot cause damage.
How does the Boom 3i sound?
Soundcore specifies 50W output and markets bass reaching as low as 56Hz. Anker’s launch announcement describes a 40W woofer, a 10W tweeter, and two bass radiators; it says BassUp 2.0 increases bass output by 3 dB. These are company-published specifications and claims, not independently measured results in this review.

For comparative context, RTINGS says the JBL Charge 6 gets louder and delivers somewhat more bass by default. RTINGS considers the Boom 3i better suited to use in and around water because it floats with its drivers facing upward. That comparison does not establish a universal winner: a preference for floating playback differs from a preference for louder output or stronger default bass.
How long does the battery last?
Soundcore advertises up to 16 hours of playtime. Its FAQ attributes that figure to company laboratory testing at room temperature with factory-default settings, 50% volume, lights off, BassUp off, and default EQ. The company cautions that actual runtime varies with volume, audio source, environmental interference, and other factors; the manual also notes that volume and music content affect runtime. The 16-hour figure is therefore a conditional manufacturer estimate, not a guaranteed result for every listening session.

The manual lists a 2400mAh / 10.95V battery and charging time under four hours. Soundcore recommends a 15W (5V/3A) charger and estimates about four hours for a full charge. The battery is not replaceable, according to the support FAQ.

- Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5.3; the manual states a range of 30 m (98 ft). Actual range can depend on surroundings and interference.
- Codecs: Soundcore lists SBC and AAC support.
- Wired audio: There is no AUX input.
- Multiple devices: The FAQ says up to two devices can connect simultaneously.
- Stereo pairing: TWS lets you pair the Boom 3i with another unit for stereo, as described in Anker’s launch material.
- Auto power-off: By default, it shuts down after 20 minutes without an audio signal or connection. Soundcore says the soundcore app can customize the idle auto-off time and EQ.
Buzz Clean uses sound and vibration to help shake loose dust or sand, according to Soundcore and RTINGS. It is a convenience feature, not a substitute for the manufacturer’s cleaning guidance or a guarantee that debris will be removed.

The Voice Amplifier is not a live megaphone. Soundcore support says the app records sound clips and plays them through the speaker; real-time voice playback is not supported.
How does it compare with alternatives?
| Speaker | What the cited comparison says | Potential fit |
|---|---|---|
| Soundcore Boom 3i | Floats with drivers facing upward; supports TWS stereo pairing with another unit. | Water-centered use where the speaker’s orientation while afloat matters. |
| JBL Charge 6 | RTINGS says it gets louder and has somewhat more bass by default; it supports Auracast for linking compatible speakers. | Consider it if louder output, default bass, or Auracast linking matters more than the Boom 3i’s floating design. |
| JBL Flip 7 | RTINGS identifies Auracast support. | Worth considering if linking compatible JBL speakers is a priority. |
| Ultimate Ears BOOM 4 | RTINGS describes a 360-degree design. | A possible fit when sound around the speaker matters more than face-up floating playback. |
| LG xboom Grab | RTINGS says it has a built-in microphone; the cited Boom 3i materials do not claim one. | Consider it if a built-in microphone is important. |
This is a focused comparison based on RTINGS’ published discussion, not a complete or current ranking of portable speakers. Check each model’s current specifications and compatibility before choosing.
What comes in the box?
Soundcore’s FAQ lists the speaker, a USB-C-to-USB-C cable, a strap, and a quick-start guide. It does not list a charger, so plan to use a suitable 15W (5V/3A) charger if you do not already have one.
Quick Recap
Who should buy the Boom 3i?
- It makes sense if you regularly listen near water and value a speaker designed to stay upright while floating, along with the stated IP68 rating.
- Look elsewhere if your main priority is louder playback and stronger default bass, multi-speaker linking through Auracast, 360-degree sound, or a built-in microphone.
- Check before buying if you need a wired AUX connection, a replaceable battery, or live voice amplification; the cited Soundcore materials say the Boom 3i does not provide those capabilities.
