But a September 4, 2026, MacRumors report citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is planning a second-generation model for 2027 with an A19 Pro chip, 12GB of memory and new colors. If that reported memory configuration proves accurate, it would address the current Neo’s fixed 8GB ceiling. The timing and specifications remain unconfirmed.
When is the next MacBook Neo coming out?
The reported window is 2027, according to MacRumors’ September 4, 2026, account of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman’s reporting. Apple has not announced a launch date or confirmed that a successor is coming in that year, so 2027 should be treated as a reported plan, not a release date.
The report also says Apple is planning new colors. It does not establish a price, availability date, or final set of configurations for the next model.
Will the next MacBook Neo have 12GB of memory?
That is what the September report says: a second-generation Neo is planned with an A19 Pro chip and 12GB of memory. The specification is not confirmed by Apple. An earlier Stuff article, published April 8, 2026, also linked an A19 Pro rumor to a possible 12GB configuration, but described that outcome as conditional. The later report is the more current account of the proposed timing and configuration.

Apple’s current-model announcement identifies the MacBook Neo with an A18 Pro, six-core CPU, five-core GPU and 8GB of unified memory in the test configuration. MacRumors reports that buyers cannot pay to upgrade the current model’s memory. The rumored move to 12GB would raise that ceiling, but it does not by itself establish how much faster the next laptop would be or how it would perform in real workloads.
Is 8GB RAM enough for the MacBook Neo?
It depends on what you do and how much you keep open at once. MacRumors’ March 27, 2026, review found the current Neo suitable for everyday browsing, documents, email, homework and video in the reviewer’s use. Its reviewer also reported that a 30-tab Chrome test remained usable. With 60 Chrome tabs open, the available memory was consumed, though the reviewer did not report freezing in that test.

Those are one reviewer’s observations, not a guarantee for every user or workload. They suggest that 8GB need not make ordinary light use unpleasant, while heavier multitasking or demanding creative work is more likely to expose the limit. MacRumors’ reviewer found more demanding creative tasks slower than on higher-tier M-series Macs.
What else is known about the current MacBook Neo?
Apple’s specifications list two USB-C ports, one USB 3 and one USB 2; external-display connectivity is supported on the USB 3 port only. MacRumors’ launch-day feature list also describes Wi-Fi 6E, no Thunderbolt, 256GB or 512GB storage options, and omissions such as a backlit keyboard. Those latter details are secondary reporting, rather than claims about the rumored successor.

Apple says its performance tests used preproduction MacBook Neo systems and specified comparison PCs and software versions. Its battery testing also has defined conditions, and Apple warns that battery life varies by use and configuration. Those qualifications matter: published test figures are not a promise of identical results for every owner.
Should you buy a MacBook Neo now or wait?
If you need a laptop now, make the decision based on the current Neo’s confirmed configuration and your workload—not on an unannounced successor. Consider whether 8GB of memory, the available storage tiers, port selection and display connection fit how you work. Check Apple’s current specifications and live pricing before buying.

If you can wait, the reported 2027 model may be worth watching if memory is your main concern. But neither its 12GB configuration nor its release timing is confirmed, and there is no established successor price to compare with today’s options. MacRumors reported that the current Neo launched in the U.S. at $599 and rose to $699 in June 2026; that is historical pricing, not a guarantee of its current price.

The September report points to a possible direct response to a clear hardware limit: moving from 8GB to 12GB would give the next Neo a higher memory ceiling. Whether that difference makes the laptop meaningfully better for a particular buyer will depend on the shipping hardware, software and workload. Until Apple announces a product, the reported chip, memory, colors and year should remain possibilities rather than purchase specifications.
