For portable gaming, the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI is the strongest fit in the available 2026 comparisons: Tom’s Hardware lists it at 3.5 pounds with an RTX 5070 and a 14.5-inch OLED display. It is not a universal winner, though. Its CPU performance is comparatively light and its speakers are underwhelming, while a work-first ultraportable such as the Dell XPS 13 prioritizes portability and video playback over dedicated-graphics gaming. The right choice depends on whether you carry it all day, play demanding games, or mainly watch streamed video.

Which lightweight laptop should you choose?

  • Choose the Acer Predator Triton 14 AI if you want a genuinely portable laptop with dedicated graphics for gaming. Its 3.5-pound weight, RTX 5070 and 120Hz OLED screen make it the clearest gaming-first option in the cited comparisons. [Tom’s Hardware]
  • Choose a work-first ultraportable such as the Dell XPS 13 (2026) if low carry weight and long video playback matter more than playing demanding games. TechRadar reports a 16-hour, 17-minute video-playback result for its lab-tested model, but that configuration has 8GB of RAM, which the guide says limits multitasking. [TechRadar]
  • Consider the Razer Blade 14 (2025) if you want a premium compact gaming laptop and its price and current availability work for you. TechRadar highlights its OLED screen and portable design, while noting that it is expensive and less powerful than laptops with RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 graphics. [TechRadar]
  • Choose a larger gaming laptop such as the HP Omen 16 Slim if carrying minimum weight is less important than gaming performance and a bigger screen. TechRadar describes it as heavier and bulkier than ultraportables and notes fan noise under load. [TechRadar]

These models serve different purposes. Their benchmark results come from different publications and test systems, so they are not direct head-to-head scores.

Best lightweight gaming laptop: Acer Predator Triton 14 AI

Tom’s Hardware names the Predator Triton 14 AI its best lightweight gaming laptop in its 2026 guide. The cited configuration pairs an Intel Core Ultra 9 288V with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070. Its 14.5-inch OLED touchscreen has a 2880×1800 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and G-Sync; the listed weight is 3.5 pounds (1.59 kg). [Tom’s Hardware]

That combination gives the laptop a meaningful gaming advantage over a typical integrated-graphics ultraportable while keeping the screen and chassis compact. Tom’s Hardware praises its gaming capability, vivid display, build quality, keyboard and touchpad, and cooling. But portability does not remove the usual compact-gaming trade-offs: the publication calls out the price, comparatively light CPU performance and underwhelming speakers. Those weaknesses matter if your work depends on heavier CPU tasks or if you rely on built-in audio for calls and entertainment.

What the reported game tests show

Tom’s Hardware reports the following results for its tested Predator configuration. These are publication-specific test figures, not promised frame rates for every game setup or player.

Game Reported result Test context
Shadow of the Tomb Raider 102 FPS 1080p; Tom’s Hardware test
Cyberpunk 2077 30 FPS Tom’s Hardware test; the cited summary does not specify the settings alongside this figure
Far Cry 6 84 FPS Tom’s Hardware test; the cited summary does not specify the settings alongside this figure
Red Dead Redemption 2 57 FPS Tom’s Hardware test; the cited summary does not specify the settings alongside this figure
Borderlands 3 91 FPS Tom’s Hardware test; the cited summary does not specify the settings alongside this figure

The spread between games is important: a strong result in one title does not establish how another game will run. Check the specific games you play, their graphics settings and the exact laptop configuration before buying.

When a work-first ultraportable is the better choice

If your day is mostly documents, browsing, calls and streamed video, a dedicated gaming GPU may be unnecessary. A lighter work-focused laptop can be easier to carry and may deliver longer playback in a controlled test. TechRadar says the Dell XPS 13 (2026) weighs almost exactly one kilogram and recorded 16 hours and 17 minutes of video playback in its lab test. That is a result under the publication’s test conditions, not a guarantee for a particular streaming app, screen brightness, Wi-Fi connection or workload. [TechRadar]

There is a work-use caveat: the XPS 13 configuration discussed in that guide has 8GB of RAM, which TechRadar says limits multitasking. The guide also notes limited port selection. Check the RAM and ports on the exact regional configuration you are considering; a model name alone does not establish that every listing has the same specifications.

When to trade minimum weight for more screen or gaming headroom

Razer Blade 14 (2025): premium compact alternative

TechRadar ranks the 2025 Blade 14 highly among thin-and-light gaming laptops, emphasizing its OLED display and portable form. It also says the laptop is expensive and is not the most powerful option compared with systems using RTX 5080 or RTX 5090 laptop GPUs. Since this is a 2025 generation, check whether it is currently available in your region and confirm the GPU and other specifications on the exact listing. [TechRadar]

Razer Blade 16 (2025): a larger display and more performance

The Blade 16’s additional screen area comes with a clear carrying-weight trade-off. TechRadar lists a 4.4-pound (2 kg) configuration with an Intel Core Ultra 9 386H, 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM, a 2TB SSD and a 16-inch 2560×1600 OLED display running at 240Hz; graphics are listed up to an Nvidia RTX 5080. The publication describes it as more powerful but less portable than the Blade 14, and reports heat and fan-noise concerns under load. [TechRadar]

For Cyberpunk 2077, TechRadar reports an average of 43 FPS using a maxed ray-tracing preset, and 217 FPS with DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation enabled. Those are two different test conditions; the enabled upscaling and frame-generation result should not be read as equivalent to the ray-tracing result without those features. [TechRadar]

HP Omen 16 Slim: larger gaming alternative

In its student-laptop guide, TechRadar describes the Omen 16 Slim with an Nvidia RTX 5060 and a 16-core Intel Core Ultra 7 255H. Its tests recorded 132 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and more than 12 hours of video playback. These figures come from TechRadar’s tests of this laptop, not the same test setup as Tom’s Hardware’s Predator results. TechRadar also notes the Omen is heavier and bulkier than ultraportables, has limited ports and produces noticeable fan noise under load. [TechRadar]

How to compare laptops for work, gaming and streamed video

There is no single best balance for every buyer. Before choosing, weigh the laptop against the tasks you actually do and verify the specification of the retail unit rather than relying on a family name.

  • Weight and screen size: A smaller machine is easier to carry, while a larger display gives games and video more room and can allow a less constrained chassis. The Predator is listed at 3.5 pounds with a 14.5-inch screen; TechRadar lists the Blade 16 at 4.4 pounds with a 16-inch screen. [Tom’s Hardware] [TechRadar]
  • Graphics and the games you play: Integrated graphics and a dedicated RTX GPU are not interchangeable choices. Look for tests of your games at settings you would actually use, and treat FPS figures as specific to the publisher’s system and methodology.
  • Battery life by activity: Office work, video playback and gaming draw power differently. A video-playback result cannot predict gaming runtime; HP’s guide frames portable gaming as a balance among weight, GPU performance, battery life, cooling and power. [HP]
  • Display for games and viewing: Compare panel type, resolution, brightness, reflections and refresh rate. The cited Predator uses a 120Hz OLED panel; the listed Blade 16 configuration uses a 240Hz OLED panel. Higher refresh rates can benefit compatible games, while OLED can make contrast and color more noticeable in both games and video.
  • Work and calls: Check CPU performance, RAM, keyboard, speakers and ports. A fast graphics processor does not guarantee strong CPU performance or good built-in audio, as the Predator’s review caveats illustrate.
  • Heat and fan noise: A compact gaming laptop may become warm or audible under load. Reviews that mention cooling, temperature or fan noise can help set expectations, but the experience depends on workload and operating conditions.
  • Price and exact configuration: Prices, stock and regional SKUs change. Compare processor, graphics, memory, storage, screen and operating-system details on the specific listing with the configuration discussed in a review. The evidence here does not establish a universal best value or current price.

Does “streaming” mean watching video or broadcasting gameplay?

The playback evidence above is about watching video, not streaming your own gameplay. A lab video-playback result is useful as a controlled comparison, but it does not establish how long a laptop will last with a particular service, brightness level, wireless connection or mix of open apps. If you mean broadcasting gameplay, the cited comparisons do not provide streaming-encode tests or a direct comparison of broadcast quality, so they cannot identify a best laptop for that separate workload.
