In 91mobiles’ September 30, 2026 hands-on comparison, the Galaxy S26 Ultra was the strongest all-round camera, with wins in daylight, ultrawide, and low-light scenes. The Pixel 11 Pro XL did better at 5x zoom and selfies, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max produced the reviewer’s preferred portraits. Those are results from one reviewer’s matched-scene test, not a universal ranking; the right choice depends on what you shoot and how you like photos to look.

How the three phone cameras compare

Dhruv Joshi’s 91mobiles comparison, published September 30, 2026, took images with all three phones in daylight, zoom, portrait, selfie, and low-light conditions. The reviewer considered color and detail, skin tones and subject separation, and low-light noise, stray light, and flare. Its category winners were:

Scenario 91mobiles’ winner What stood out in the comparison
Daylight Galaxy S26 Ultra The reviewer found Samsung the most consistent, with strong detail and appealing color. The iPhone followed; the Pixel was preferred for realistic color over outright sharpness.
5x zoom Pixel 11 Pro XL The Pixel retained detail with less visible noise and detail loss. The iPhone kept roughly similar color, while Samsung slightly increased exposure.
Ultrawide Galaxy S26 Ultra Samsung delivered the strongest detail and clarity. The Pixel was judged most faithful in color. The tested Samsung mode was 0.6x, compared with 0.5x on the other phones.
Portrait iPhone 18 Pro Max The reviewer praised the iPhone’s subject separation and bokeh. The Pixel had the most faithful color, while Samsung showed stronger facial detail.
Selfie Pixel 11 Pro XL The reviewer favored the Pixel’s exposure, facial detail, and authentic color. Glare appeared in the tested Galaxy selfie scene.
Low light Galaxy S26 Ultra Samsung was credited with sharper detail and better control of flare and light bleed in the tested scene. The Pixel was judged most faithful in color.

These are qualitative judgments from a particular set of scenes and tested configurations, not lab scores or a guarantee of what every photographer will prefer. Color, in particular, is subjective. TechRadar’s separate hands-on comparison of the iPhone 18 Pro and Galaxy S26 Ultra describes a similar broad difference in rendering preference—more natural-looking iPhone images versus more vibrant, stylized Samsung images—but it did not test the Pro Max or include the Pixel, so it is not a second three-way ranking.

Which phone should you choose for your photography?

Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra for consistency, detail, and difficult scenes

Samsung is the clearest pick from this comparison if your priority is a camera that performed strongly across several types of scene. It won daylight, ultrawide, and low light, with the reviewer emphasizing detail, sharpness, and handling of flare and light bleed. The ultrawide finding has a framing caveat: the tested Galaxy view was 0.6x, while the iPhone and Pixel used 0.5x, so the images did not cover exactly the same field of view.

Choose the Pixel 11 Pro XL for 5x zoom, selfies, and realistic color

The Pixel won the comparison’s 5x zoom and selfie rounds. It was also repeatedly favored for faithful or authentic color, including in ultrawide, portrait, and low-light scenes where another phone won overall. If natural-looking color matters more to you than punchier rendering or maximum sharpness, the Pixel may be the better fit even though it did not take the overall result.

Choose the iPhone 18 Pro Max for the tested portrait look and video controls

The iPhone won the portrait round for subject separation and bokeh, although the reviewer credited Samsung with stronger facial detail and the Pixel with more faithful color. Apple’s published specifications also document a substantial set of video and pro controls. Those are manufacturer-listed capabilities, not results measured in the 91mobiles photo comparison.

Camera hardware and video features, with source qualifications

Megapixel counts alone do not predict which phone will make the image you prefer. The available specifications are useful for understanding the camera systems, but they come from different sources and should not be treated as a like-for-like independent test.

  • iPhone 18 Pro Max: Apple lists a 48MP Fusion main camera with four selectable aperture values (ƒ/1.48, ƒ/1.8, ƒ/2.8, and ƒ/4.0), a 48MP ultrawide, and a 48MP 100mm/4x telephoto. Apple also lists an 8x optical-quality telephoto setting, 40x digital zoom, 48MP macro photography, and Pro controls. Video options include Dolby Vision 4K at up to 120 fps on the main camera, ProRes up to 4K/120 fps with external recording, ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and Genlock support. These are Apple’s manufacturer specifications.
  • Pixel 11 Pro XL: AT&T lists a 50MP wide camera, a 48MP ultrawide with Macro Focus, a 48MP 5x telephoto, and Super Res Zoom up to 120x. These are carrier-listed specifications rather than a direct Google specification source.
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra: The available comparison confirms the tested model and its results, but does not establish a Galaxy camera specification sheet against Samsung’s official site. TechRadar describes a related Galaxy S26 Ultra system with a 200MP main camera, 50MP ultrawide, and separate 3x and 5x telephotos in its comparison with the iPhone 18 Pro. That article does not compare the Pro Max, so those details should not be treated here as a definitive, independently verified specification comparison.

How to read the overall result

91mobiles selected the Galaxy S26 Ultra overall after awarding it three of the six category wins, compared with two for the Pixel and one for the iPhone. That count describes this reviewer’s categories; it is not a standardized camera score. The useful conclusion is scenario-based: Samsung led in consistency and detail across the tested scenes, Pixel excelled at 5x zoom and selfies and often rendered color more faithfully, and iPhone delivered the preferred portrait separation while offering Apple-documented pro video options.
