In Expert Reviews’ hands-on test, it reduced humidity substantially faster in a small bedroom than in a large living room. It is less convincing for open-plan spaces, and its measured noise makes it a poor choice if you need a quiet appliance beside your bed.
What the Devola DVH12L is—and which model this review covers
This review covers the Devola DVH12L Platinum Compressor Dehumidifier & Air Purifier with HEPA Filter. Devola specifies a compressor, a replaceable HEPA filter, a 2.7L tank and a rated extraction capacity of 12L per day. That 12L figure is a rated maximum, not a promise of how much water it will collect in an ordinary home.
Do not confuse it with Devola’s DV12L. That is a separate 12L compressor model with a dust filter and a 2L tank. The National Energy Action (NEA) report’s energy-monitoring results are for the DV12L, not the DVH12L, so they cannot be used as the DVH12L’s measured power or moisture-collection results.
How well does the DVH12L reduce humidity?
Expert Reviews reviewer Stuart Andrews tested dehumidifiers over several days in a three-bedroom home, including a large living room and a smaller, north-east-facing bedroom. His measurements show why the room matters more than the 12L/day headline when deciding whether this model will suit your space.

Small bedroom
In the smaller bedroom, relative humidity fell from 67% to 58% in 60 minutes, then to 56% after another hour and 54% after three hours. After two further hours in Auto mode, it stabilized at 52%. These are observations in the reviewer’s home, not guaranteed results in a different room, where temperature, airflow and moisture levels may vary.
Large living room
In the living room, with the target set to 35% relative humidity, the reading dropped from 68% to 64% in the first hour, then stayed around 63% for the next two hours. The reviewer recommended a more powerful model for larger or open-plan rooms. On these results, the DVH12L is a stronger match for a bedroom or similarly contained space than for a large area.

Can it dry laundry?
Andrews left a clothes rack to dry for six hours. T-shirts, socks, tea towels and underwear were dry enough to put away; jeans and sweatshirts needed another hour or two. The test suggests the Laundry mode can help with lighter items, but heavier clothes may take longer.
Noise and power use in the review
Expert Reviews measured noise at 42.9 dBA on high and 40.6 dBA on low. Andrews could hear the appliance nearby and found it difficult to sleep beside. These are the reviewer’s measurements, rather than Devola’s published noise figures, and they give a more useful indication of bedside suitability than the word “Sleep” in the mode list alone.

In the same review, power use reached 171W during laundry or other intensive operation. In Auto mode it measured 20–24.7W when the compressor was presumably off. Those readings describe the reviewer’s test and modes; they should not be treated as a universal draw or used alone to calculate running costs.
Features, dimensions and official specifications
Devola lists three speeds and Auto, Sleep, Laundry and Air Purifying modes, along with a 24-hour timer, child lock and continuous drainage. The drainage hose is not supplied. The stated operating range is 5–35°C, the refrigerant is R290, and maximum airflow is listed as 105 m³/h.

The published power figures describe different contexts, and the review’s measured result is from a specific test. They should not be collapsed into one definitive power draw. Likewise, the manufacturer’s 12L/day capacity depends on test conditions. NEA explains that a 12L rating may require conditions such as 30°C and 80% relative humidity—conditions uncommon in UK homes. Its examples of extraction under other conditions concern the Meaco Arete One, not this Devola model.

Devola lists a replacement DVH Platinum HEPA filter in a two-pack, as well as a replacement dust filter, castors, water tank and HV12LHOSE drainage hose. Check that a part is listed for the exact DVH12L variant before ordering. Because the drainage hose is not included, continuous drainage requires obtaining a compatible hose separately.

Verdict: a better fit for a bedroom than an open-plan room
The DVH12L’s strongest evidence is its performance in a small bedroom and its help with lighter laundry. Its slower humidity reduction in the large living room makes it difficult to recommend as a solution for a big or open-plan space, while its measured noise is a drawback for bedside use. As Andrews put it, “While it struggles in large living spaces, this compact dehumidifier is great for smaller rooms. It’s even a dab hand at drying out the laundry.”
When comparing it with another dehumidifier, consider the room layout, measured moisture reduction under comparable conditions, laundry performance, noise at the speed you expect to use, tank size and drainage options, filter availability, and power draw in the relevant mode. Rated extraction figures alone do not tell you how a model will perform in your home.
