Its onboard screen and button-based learning and settings workflow can make it a more direct starting point than building a computer-vision pipeline on a general-purpose board—but compatibility and recognition performance still depend on the project and setup.
What the original HUSKYLENS does
The SEN0305 combines a Kendryte K210 processor, an OV2640 or GC0328 image sensor, a 2.0-inch IPS display, and UART and I2C connections. DFRobot lists seven built-in functions:
- Face recognition
- Object tracking
- Object recognition
- Line tracking
- Color recognition
- Tag recognition
- Object classification
You select a function on the device, use its learning button where applicable, and view the live interface and settings on its screen. A connected controller can read results such as position data through UART or I2C. This division of work means the HUSKYLENS handles its built-in vision functions while a board such as an Arduino or micro:bit can use the results to control a project.
Published specifications and power needs
The following figures are DFRobot’s published specifications for SEN0305, not independent measurements.
#1 Best Overall
- HuskyLens is an easy-to-use AI machine vision sensor. It can learn to detect objects, faces, lines, colors and tags just by clicking.
- One-Click-Learn: HuskyLens is designed to be smart. Built-in algorithms allow HuskyLens to learn new things just by a single click.
- Machine-Learning-Enabled: Equipped with advanced machine learning technology, HuskyLens is capable of recognizing faces and objects, which is far more beyond ordinary sensors.
- Onboard Screen: HuskyLens carries a 2.0 inch IPS screen, therefore you don't need to use a PC in parameters tuning. Enjoy the convenience it brings, what you see is what you get!
- Extreme Performance: HuskyLens adopts a new generation AI specialized chip Kendryte K210, contributing to 1,000 times faster performance compared to STM32H743 when running neural network algorithm.
| Specification | DFRobot listing |
|---|---|
| Processor | Kendryte K210 |
| Image sensor | OV2640 / GC0328 |
| Supply voltage | 3.3–5.0 V |
| Interfaces | UART and I2C |
| Display | 2.0-inch IPS, 320 × 240 |
| Typical current consumption | 320 mA at 3.3 V or 230 mA at 5.0 V in face-recognition mode, with backlight at 80% and fill light off |
Check that the chosen supply can support the sensor’s current draw under the operating conditions your build will use. The published current figures apply to the stated face-recognition test conditions; they should not be treated as a universal draw for every function or setup.
Connecting it to a controller
DFRobot documents Arduino and micro:bit examples, and lists Raspberry Pi among compatible controllers. The connection is through UART or I2C, and the examples show how to retrieve sensor output. “Compatible” does not mean every board uses the same wiring, voltage levels, libraries, or software configuration: follow the example and electrical requirements for the particular controller and interface.
Configure the communication interface
The K210 setup guide lists UART baud rates of 9600, 115200, and 1000000, as well as I2C and automatic protocol detection. Use the setting expected by the controller example or software on the other end of the connection.
Rank #2
- HuskyLens is an easy-to-use AI machine vision sensor. It can learn to detect objects, faces, lines, colors and tags just by clicking. The Silicone Sleeve is included in the package.

- Use the function button to open the HUSKYLENS settings and select the required protocol and, for UART, baud rate.
- Choose the language if needed; the K210 guide lists Chinese and English.
- Select “Save & Return” to save the settings before returning to the main interface.
- Connect the controller over the selected interface and use the matching DFRobot example for that board.
If the controller does not receive usable data, check that both ends use the same protocol and UART baud rate, and confirm the wiring and board-specific example. The existence of a manufacturer example is a starting point, not a guarantee that a different board or software setup will work unchanged.
When SEN0305 is a good fit—and when it may not be
Consider it when
- You want to experiment with one of the seven functions built into this model rather than implement that function’s vision pipeline on your controller.
- You want to teach or select a function using the device’s screen and buttons, then send results to a controller over UART or I2C.
- Your project can accommodate the published supply range and the sensor’s power needs.
Look beyond it when
- You need a function outside the seven listed above, a custom model, or a newer advanced capability. The SEN0305 documentation does not establish those features.
- You need proven recognition accuracy or reliability for a particular environment. Manufacturer specifications and feature descriptions do not establish independent performance in your lighting, camera placement, or application.
- Your controller, wiring, power source, or software cannot meet the interface and electrical requirements of the build.
Do not confuse SEN0305 with HUSKYLENS 2
HUSKYLENS 2 is a separate product generation with a K230 processor; it is not another name for the K210-based SEN0305. DFRobot describes HUSKYLENS 2 as offering touchscreen operation without programming, more than 20 built-in models, functions including instance segmentation and hand or pose recognition, and custom-model deployment. Those capabilities belong to HUSKYLENS 2 and should not be assumed for SEN0305. Check the model name and SKU when selecting documentation or a product listing.
