Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteThe BOOX Palma 3 updates the Palma 2’s software and wireless specifications, adds optional InkSense Plus handwriting support, and switches to an aluminum-frame, textured-fiberglass design. Its display, memory, storage and battery capacity remain the same on BOOX’s published spec sheets, while its listed weight increases by about 25 g. Whether it is a worthwhile upgrade depends mainly on whether those newer features matter to you.

Specifications are from BOOX’s Palma 3 listing and Palma 2 listing. TechRadar’s September 16, 2026 launch coverage also reports the 25 g weight difference. These are published specifications and descriptions, not independent measurements or hands-on test findings.
Is the Palma 3 a screen or performance upgrade?
Not on the listed hardware specifications. Both models have a 6.13-inch, 824 × 1648, 300-ppi monochrome display, 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, plus a microSD slot. BOOX also lists the same 3,950 mAh battery capacity. The spec sheets therefore do not show a resolution, memory, storage or battery-capacity increase.
Android 16 replaces Android 13, but that version difference alone does not establish how long either device will receive updates or how quickly apps will run. The available specifications also do not establish a real-world battery-life advantage, better page-turn performance or superior display quality.

What do the new materials and extra weight mean?
BOOX describes the Palma 3 as having an anodized aluminum frame and paper-textured fiberglass back. The Palma 3 listing gives dimensions of 159 × 78 × 7.8 mm and a weight of about 195 g; the Palma 2 listing gives 159 × 80 × 8.0 mm and about 170 g. That is a listed increase of roughly 25 g, not a lighter redesign.
The material change may appeal to someone who prefers that construction, but published descriptions cannot establish how either device feels in the hand, how durable it is, or which is more comfortable for long reading sessions. No independent durability or comfort comparison is established here.

What does optional handwriting support add?
BOOX says the Palma 3 supports handwriting with the optional InkSense Plus stylus. BOOX’s September 15, 2026 launch announcement identifies the stylus as a separate purchase. The cited Palma 2 specifications do not identify stylus support.
This is the most relevant new capability for someone who wants to annotate or write on the device. It is not a built-in stylus, and the announcement does not establish handwriting quality or a comparative note-taking experience.

What were the announced prices and availability?
BOOX’s September 15, 2026 announcement listed the Palma 3 at $339.99 and said “Available soon.” At the time checked on October 5, 2026, its product page showed “From $319.99” and coming-soon wording. Those are dated announcement and page snapshots, not confirmed current checkout prices or availability. The Palma 2 page’s comparison block showed $249.99; that, too, is a page snapshot rather than a verified current street price. Check BOOX or a retailer for the price and stock in your region.
BOOX’s launch announcement says, “A 3,950mAh battery delivers days of reading on a single charge.” That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently measured runtime; the shared battery capacity does not prove equal endurance between models.

Should you upgrade from Palma 2?
- Consider Palma 3 if Android 16, Bluetooth 6.0, the different materials, or optional stylus handwriting are features you specifically want.
- Keep your Palma 2 if its current reading functions meet your needs and you are looking for a substantial display, memory, storage or battery-capacity upgrade. Those figures are unchanged in the published specifications.
- Compare live prices before deciding. The available figures are dated snapshots, and they do not establish the current price difference in your region.
This is a specification-based comparison, not a hands-on verdict: no independent evidence here establishes longer battery life, better durability, faster performance, or improved reading comfort on Palma 3.
