To get a Taiwanese IP address, connect to a VPN server in Taiwan. Proton VPN and Windscribe list Taiwan endpoints, with Windscribe identifying Taipei; server availability can change, so check the provider’s current app or server list before subscribing. A Taiwan connection changes your apparent internet exit location, but it does not guarantee a particular speed or access to a streaming catalog.
How to connect through Taiwan
- Choose a VPN with a current Taiwan endpoint. Proton VPN and Windscribe advertise Taiwan servers; Windscribe names Taipei. Confirm availability in the provider’s current server list: Proton VPN server locations and Windscribe locations.
- Install the provider’s app on the device you plan to use, then sign in. Proton VPN describes a sign-up, download, and connect process and lists apps for major desktop and mobile platforms: Proton VPN apps.
- Select Taiwan in the app’s location list and connect. The exact server-selection controls vary by app.
- Check your apparent location. Use an IP-location checker to confirm that the exit address is identified as Taiwan. If you are checking Netflix, open Fast.com, select “Show more info,” and look at the country beside “Client.” Netflix describes this as a troubleshooting check, not a guarantee of how other services locate an address: Netflix VPN help.
What speeds can you expect?
There is no dependable speed figure for every person connecting to Taiwan. Results vary with your normal connection, distance and route to the server, server load, VPN protocol, device, and test method. A provider’s claims about network capacity or acceleration are not a prediction of the speed you will get from a Taiwan endpoint.
One published Taiwan measurement
VPN Speed Test’s page, accessed in 2026, reports Surfshark Taiwan WireGuard results of 324.8 Mbps average download, 296.6 Mbps average upload, and 226.0 ms average ping across 599 tests. The publisher says it tested one Taiwan server. These are its rolling measurements, not a guarantee for your connection or a comparison across all VPN providers: VPN Speed Test’s Surfshark Taiwan results.
Throughput and latency describe different things. Download and upload indicate data transfer rates; ping reflects delay. A connection can have high throughput and still feel delayed in interactive activities when latency is high.

Measure your own connection
- Run a speed test with the VPN disconnected and note download, upload, and ping.
- Connect to the Taiwan endpoint and repeat using the same device, network, and test service, as close to the same time as practical.
- Compare the three results separately. One test is a snapshot, not a lasting performance guarantee; repeat at different times if consistency matters.
Proton VPN advertises WireGuard support, a 10 Gbps server network, and VPN Accelerator. Those are provider statements, not independent Taiwan-specific speed results: Proton VPN server network information.
Will a Taiwanese IP work for streaming?
It may change the location a service sees, but a Taiwan exit IP does not guarantee access to a Taiwan catalog or successful playback. Netflix says that a VPN can make a device or network appear to connect from another location, but with a VPN it displays only titles for which it has worldwide rights. As Netflix puts it, “If you use a VPN, you’ll only see TV shows and movies that Netflix has worldwide rights for, such as Squid Game or Stranger Things.” Netflix also says VPN use is unsupported for live programming and ad-supported plans: Netflix Help Center: watching TV shows and movies through a VPN.

A service may also detect a VPN or proxy and ask you to turn it off. Netflix’s troubleshooting guidance recommends disabling the VPN or proxy and retrying; it does not promise that a commercial VPN will avoid detection: Netflix proxy error help. Other streaming services have their own location rules and detection systems, so check the service’s current guidance for your plan and device.
