Which M.2 NVMe SSD is compatible with the M710q Tiny?
Look for an M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD. Lenovo’s M710 Tiny datasheet specifies one M.2 2280 slot for a PCIe SSD or Intel Optane storage: Lenovo ThinkCentre M710 Tiny specifications. Lenovo’s user guide also identifies a dedicated M.2 storage-drive slot: M710q User Guide.
M.2 describes a drive’s physical format, not by itself its data interface. Match the documented PCIe interface as well as the 2280 length; an M.2 SATA drive should not be assumed compatible just because it fits the connector physically. The cited Lenovo specifications do not identify every third-party SSD tested or approved for the system.
What to check before buying
- Identify the exact computer. Check the machine type/model on the chassis label or in system information. Configurations can differ, so verify the relevant documentation for your specific unit.
- Match the form factor. Choose M.2 2280, the size listed in Lenovo’s M710q-era specifications.
- Match the interface. Choose PCIe/NVMe rather than relying on the M.2 label alone.
- Choose capacity and seller terms for your needs. The Lenovo documents cited here do not set one maximum NVMe capacity for every configuration or recommend a particular capacity. Check the seller’s compatibility information and return policy if support for your chosen drive is uncertain.
Can you use a 2.5-inch SSD instead?
Lenovo also documents a separate 2.5-inch HDD/SSD storage option, alongside the M.2 slot. This is a different physical upgrade path from an M.2 NVMe drive. Whether a particular M710q has the bay and the required connector, cable, and mounting hardware depends on its configuration; confirm those parts for your machine before purchasing a 2.5-inch drive. Is the M.2 drive replaceable?
Lenovo’s support service-parts listing includes an M.2 storage drive for the ThinkCentre M710q, indicating it is a serviceable component. The listing does not establish compatibility for every aftermarket model or provide a universal capacity limit: Lenovo System service parts.
