Google has made a meaningful improvement to the Pixel 11 Pro’s cellular performance in one direct comparison with the Pixel 10 Pro, but the evidence does not prove that every modem problem is fixed. The newer phone held 5G in some tested locations where its predecessor fell to 4G, delivered faster downloads, and used less battery in a cellular video-streaming test. Uploads were worse, however, and results can vary by carrier, signal, workload, software, and device.

What changed in the Pixel 11 Pro modem?

Android Authority’s Sanuj Bhatia compared the Pixel 11 Pro’s new MediaTek modem with the Pixel 10 Pro. In his tests, the 11 Pro downloaded faster indoors and outdoors, and retained 5G in some places where the 10 Pro dropped to 4G. That is encouraging evidence of better performance in those situations, not a guarantee of stronger coverage on every network.

The comparison also included a matched 30-minute cellular YouTube stream at 1080p, 60 frames per second, with HDR enabled. The Pixel 11 Pro fell from 66% to 63% battery, while the Pixel 10 Pro went from 61% to 56%. The newer phone therefore used 3 percentage points versus 5 in that single test. Android Authority cautioned that other factors affect battery results, and the test does not establish all-day battery life. Read Android Authority’s modem comparison.

Uploads were “strangely worse” on the newer phone in the same comparison. Cellular performance depends on the carrier, local signal conditions, network congestion, workload, software, and variation between devices. The available comparison supports a step forward in tested downloads and streaming efficiency, not a universal fix.

How good are the cameras?

The camera system is one of the Pixel 11 Pro’s clearest strengths. WIRED identifies a 50-megapixel main camera and a 48-megapixel telephoto sensor with improved light sensitivity. Its reviewer found the 5x telephoto camera strong, portrait processing better at rendering hair, and low-light shots quicker to capture. Moving subjects can still blur in low light. Read WIRED’s Pixel 11 Pro review.

What 120x Pro Zoom means

Google advertises up to 120x Pro Zoom, but that is not 120x optical magnification or native optical detail. WIRED reports that imagery beyond 30x uses AI-generated pixels to fill in detail, and that keeping the camera steady at those magnifications is difficult. Treat it as a computational zoom feature for distant subjects, not a substitute for the detail of a dedicated optical lens. Google’s Pixel 11 Pro product page lists the feature.

How long does the battery last?

Independent reviewers reported different outcomes under different workloads, so their results are not directly comparable. WIRED recorded about four hours of screen-on time before the phone reached 20% while using cellular downloads, Google Maps, and taking many photographs. The reviewer expected average users to get through a day, but said power users would need a top-up.

The Guardian’s Samuel Gibbs reported just shy of two days, with about seven hours of active screen use across mixed Wi-Fi and 5G browsing, messaging, and photography. That is a different reviewer’s mixed-use experience, not a conflicting measurement under the same conditions. Google’s claim of 30+ hours is a manufacturer estimate, not an independent test result. Charging speed and wireless charging

TechRadar lists a 4,850mAh battery and wired charging of up to 30W. In its test with a 45W adapter, Extreme Charging enabled, and the phone at the start of the test, it reached 25% after 15 minutes and 86% after an hour. With Extreme Charging disabled, it reached 24% after 15 minutes and 71% after an hour. Those are results under TechRadar’s test conditions; a different charger, starting charge, temperature, or use during charging may change the result. Read TechRadar’s review and charging test.

Google says the Pixel 11 Pro has built-in Pixelsnap and supports Qi2.2 wireless charging at up to 25W. Check that a charger or case explicitly lists compatibility with the Pixel 11 Pro before buying; compatibility with another Pixel model does not establish that it fits or works with this phone. Google’s product page describes its charging compatibility.

Is it fast enough for games and everyday use?

Google calls Tensor G6 its fastest chip yet and says it improves browsing, app launches, and on-device AI. Those are manufacturer claims, rather than independently verified benchmark results. In reviewers’ everyday use, the phone felt snappy, but graphics-heavy gaming is less impressive: WIRED found demanding titles underwhelming, while The Guardian said the phone could not match top Qualcomm or Apple chips for games. TechRadar also reported that competing premium phones outscored it in Geekbench 6 and 3DMark.

This distinction matters: for ordinary apps, the Pixel 11 Pro’s performance may feel responsive, while people buying primarily for demanding games should compare real gaming performance rather than relying on chip branding or AI features.

What else is new, and how substantial is the upgrade?

Google says the Tensor G6 image signal processor helps low-light photography. It also claims peak display brightness of up to 3,600 nits and more than double the previous generation’s scratch resistance. These are manufacturer specifications and claims, not independent findings established by the reviews cited here. Google’s product page has the manufacturer’s feature details.

The overall case is a premium, relatively compact Android phone with a flexible camera system, Google software features, and better cellular performance in the tested situations. It is a less compelling purchase for owners of a Pixel 10 Pro who expect a radical redesign or major performance leap. Samuel Gibbs of The Guardian described everyday tasks as snappy while noting that the phone cannot match top Qualcomm or Apple chips for games.

Who should buy the Pixel 11 Pro?

  • Consider it if you want a compact premium Android phone, value Google’s camera processing and telephoto camera, and hope for better cellular downloads than on older Pixels.
  • Compare carefully if you rely on consistently strong cellular service: check performance on your own carrier and in the places you use your phone, because one reviewer’s comparison cannot predict your coverage.
  • Look elsewhere or test before committing if demanding mobile gaming or reliable heavy-use battery life is a priority.
  • Pixel 10 Pro owners should weigh the camera and modem improvements against their existing phone; this is a measured iteration, not evidence of a dramatic generational leap.

When comparing alternatives, focus on camera output, cellular results on your carrier, battery under workloads like yours, game performance, screen size, storage, and current local price. Prices, stock, and available configurations can change by retailer and region.
