Skype version 8.79 added desktop controls for zooming in on another person’s shared screen and a Switch View menu for desktop and web calls. The release was reported on December 22, 2021; it is a historical update, not confirmation of Skype’s latest release today.
How to zoom in on a shared screen in Skype
During a desktop call when another participant is sharing a screen, the reported version 8.79 controls offered three ways to enlarge the shared content and make small text easier to read:
- Use the on-screen zoom controls near the lower-right corner of the meeting window.
- On Windows, hold Ctrl while scrolling with a mouse; on macOS, hold Command while scrolling.
- Use a touchpad gesture.
These controls were described in Petri’s December 22, 2021 report on Skype 8.79. The report does not establish whether the controls or gestures work the same way in current Skype versions.
How to change the Skype call view
Skype 8.79 also introduced a Switch View menu for desktop and web video calls. The reported choices were:

The report names these options but does not specify participant limits or detailed layout behavior. It also does not provide a current menu path or confirm present-day availability.
Other changes reported in version 8.79
Petri’s report also noted easier contact filtering on iOS and Android, along with fixes for a crash when calls ended, iOS notification actions that failed to open chats, and Windows app-refresh problems when adding funds. These are reported release changes, not a guarantee that every issue was fixed for every user or platform.

What “latest Skype update” means here
The “latest” wording in the original headline refers to the update discussed when the report was published on December 22, 2021. The gradual rollout described there applied to the days after that announcement; it does not establish current availability. Microsoft’s Skype version information page lists later version numbers than 8.79, but the page is not current enough to verify the latest build today.
