A “provably fair” result can support the first check; it does not establish the second. No single test proves that a casino is safe, so record what you can verify and mark the rest unverified.
What a self-audit can—and cannot—show
A provably-fair mechanism may let you check a particular game result using that game’s disclosed algorithm and seed data. The scope matters: a result check does not establish licensing, lawful access in your location, customer-fund safeguards, withdrawal reliability, account security, fair terms, or effective player-protection tools. It also says nothing about games that do not expose an independently checkable mechanism. Keep the game audit separate from operator due diligence; the ProvablyFair.org audit methodology, published June 2026, explicitly excludes areas such as custody, withdrawals, licensing, AML, responsible gambling, infrastructure security, and non-provably-fair games.
Because no particular casino is being assessed here, this process cannot establish any operator’s current license, terms, game implementation, withdrawal record, or financial position. Use it to evaluate a casino’s evidence, not to treat a checklist as a certification.
How do I audit a crypto casino myself?
1. Identify the operator and check the license for your location
Write down the brand name, operating company or legal entity, website domain, claimed license number and regulator, and the country or jurisdiction from which you would access the casino. Then go to the regulator’s own website and search its register yourself. Confirm that the current entry matches the casino’s legal entity and domain, and that the relevant permission is active. A logo or certificate image on the casino’s site is a claim by the operator, not independent confirmation.

A license in one jurisdiction does not establish that play is lawful, or that the same protections apply, in another. Check the rules and regulator information for your own location. The UK Gambling Commission’s Licence Conditions and Codes of Practice illustrate requirements that apply to its licensees, including licensed-status display, game rules, fair-and-open provisions, customer funds, AML, complaints, and identity checks. Those UK requirements are not a worldwide standard.
2. Read and save the current terms
Save a copy or note the date and version of the terms you reviewed. Search for clauses that could affect access to your account or funds:
- Restricted countries and eligibility requirements.
- Age and identity checks, including when documents may be requested.
- Bonus eligibility, wagering requirements, and restrictions on withdrawals.
- Withdrawal minimums, caps, fees, processing conditions, and any verification conditions.
- Dormant-account rules, account closure, and language about voiding bets or confiscating funds.
- How to complain and how to escalate a complaint.
Compare advertising and bonus promises with the binding terms. KYC—“know your customer”—means gathering customer information to assess compliance risks and detect criminal proceeds; it does not promise that a particular casino will request documents only at a particular point. The UK government’s policy paper and glossary provide that definition and UK policy context. Its statements concern UK policy, not every country or operator.

3. Test the provably-fair mechanism for each game you plan to play
Do not assume that one game’s method applies to the casino’s other games. For each game type, find the rules and payout table or published RTP, the stated algorithm, the seed inputs, the nonce or round counter, and the process for revealing or rotating the server seed. Preserve the game version, settings, bet identifier, timestamp, displayed result, seed data, and payout record.

Use a verifier implemented independently of the casino where possible. A result reproduced with independent code is stronger evidence than entering the inputs into a verifier controlled by the operator, because the latter does not independently establish that the verifier itself follows the stated method.
For each recorded bet, check whether the server-seed commitment prevents the operator from changing the outcome after the wager; whether the disclosed inputs are used by the stated algorithm; whether recomputation matches the result in the bet history; whether that result follows the published game rules; and whether the payout matches the game’s stated math. The ProvablyFair.org methodology describes examining seed determinism, RNG and entropy, verifier parity, RTP and payout logic, integrity, player verification, and reproducibility using operator specifications or logic, API responses, published seeds, bet histories, and live behaviour.

A handful of matching bets can reveal a mismatch, but cannot establish long-run fairness. Expected payout is assessed principally from the game rules and mathematics; statistical claims about observed outcomes require a very large sample. ProvablyFair.org reports that its own work involved 53,475 live bets verified, 253 million simulated rounds, and 151 game-integrity checks in 2026; those are vendor-reported figures on its methodology page, not independently verified here or statistics about the casino market. The same page says a typical per-game audit involves thousands of live bets and tens of millions of simulated rounds.
4. Check RNG and game-rule claims against their scope
Look for the algorithm and seed-handling details, a dated report from a named independent testing lab, and evidence that the tested game and version match what is currently deployed. Read what any certificate actually covers: it may apply only to an RNG component, a specific product or version, or a particular date. “Provably fair” should not be treated as proof about games without an independently checkable mechanism.
Standards vary by jurisdiction. As one local example—not a universal rule—the New Zealand Department of Internal Affairs’ Online Casino Gambling Minimum Standards say RNG output should be cryptographically secure, unpredictable, and appropriately distributed; require monitoring and responses to anomalies; and require applicable mapping or scaling to preserve uniformity without introducing bias. Check the standards of the regulator relevant to your location instead of assuming these requirements apply everywhere.

5. Investigate the operator beyond the game engine
Seek dated, independent evidence about withdrawals, account security, public incidents, custody arrangements, complaint handling, and financial reliability. Check whether multi-factor authentication is available for sensitive account actions, whether transaction records are identifiable and clear, and whether game rules, odds, and RTP are accessible. New Zealand’s standards offer jurisdiction-specific examples of account activity records, optional MFA for sensitive operations, accessible game information, and identifiable account transactions; these controls do not prove reserves or guarantee that withdrawals will be processed.
Treat user reviews and affiliate rankings as leads, not proof. Prefer regulator notices, primary records, independently reproducible game evidence, and multiple consistent sources. If you choose to make a test withdrawal, a successful transaction establishes only that one withdrawal worked under those particular conditions; it cannot guarantee future withdrawals.
6. Check player safeguards before play
Find out whether the casino offers deposit, loss, and time limits; time-outs or cooling-off periods; and self-exclusion. Check that the controls work and are available in your jurisdiction, and identify the local support route before you need it.

PAGCOR’s Responsible Gaming guidance recommends setting session time limits, not borrowing or gambling all available resources, and not chasing losses. It identifies betting more than intended, playing longer than planned, and repeatedly trying to recover losses as warning signs, and links to Philippine exclusion and help resources. Its advice is jurisdiction-specific; find support that applies where you live. PAGCOR puts the financial risk plainly: “Gambling is not a source of income.”

- Capture the bet record. Save the game name and version, bet identifier, time, settings, displayed outcome, payout, and any seed or nonce information shown in the game history.
- Find the game’s published verification instructions. Identify the algorithm, required seed inputs, nonce or round counter, and how the server seed is revealed or rotated. Do not substitute instructions from another game.
- Recompute the outcome. Use an independently implemented verifier where possible, following the stated input format and algorithm. Preserve the verifier’s identity or code version along with your result.
- Compare with the record and rules. Check that your recomputed result matches the casino’s bet history, then check that the outcome and payout agree with that game’s published rules.
- Record the limits of the check. Note which game version and bets you reproduced, what source supplied the method, and anything you could not verify. A successful result check applies to those inputs and that game scope, not to the whole operator.
How should I write up the findings?
For each finding, record the claim, source and date accessed, relevant jurisdiction and game or version, whether you reproduced it independently, the strength of the evidence, and what remains unknown. Keep conclusions separate so a positive result in one area does not conceal a gap in another:
- Game fairness and payout rules.
- License status and legal access in your location.
- Terms, identity checks, bonuses, complaints, and withdrawals.
- Account security and custody or financial evidence.
- Limits, self-exclusion, and other player safeguards.
If evidence is missing, record the point as unverified rather than assuming the casino passes. Licenses, laws, terms, game versions, and support resources can change, so check volatile details with the operator and relevant regulator immediately before relying on them.
