Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →There is not enough verified evidence to confirm that the link now being shared crashes and reboots iPhones. The reported claim has not been tied to a verified URL or a reproducible technical analysis. Don’t forward the link or open it to test the rumor. Historical iPhone bugs and real WebKit vulnerabilities exist, but neither confirms this specific claim.
What is known about the circulating link?
The claim remains unverified. A search-result report dated October 4, 2026, said the Apple security notes it checked did not identify the alleged text bomb, but the report could not be fully inspected. That is not proof the link is harmless, nor does it establish that a link with the described behavior exists.

No verified link, reproducible demonstration, Apple statement, or independent technical analysis was identified in the available evidence. In particular, there is no basis to say that opening it causes a full-device reboot, or to describe it as an iPhone hack. The result could differ depending on whether an app closes, Safari crashes, or iOS itself restarts.
What does “crash and reboot” mean?
These descriptions can refer to distinct events: a single app may close; SpringBoard, the iOS interface, may crash and restart; Safari may unexpectedly close; or the device may undergo a full operating-system restart. A reboot by itself does not establish that data was stolen, that the iPhone was compromised, or that its hardware failed. The available evidence does not establish which, if any, of these outcomes the circulating link causes.

Do past iPhone bugs confirm the warning?
No. Apple has acknowledged earlier bugs involving unusual text, and security issues in web content are real, but those are separate incidents with different triggers and affected components.
The 2015 Unicode issue in Messages
In 2015, Apple told iMore: “We are aware of an iMessage issue caused by a specific series of unicode characters and we will make a fix available in a software update.” The report said that rendering the characters, including in notifications, could crash the app or restart the system. This documented incident does not show that today’s link uses the same mechanism or has the same effect.

The 2024 typed-character bug
A separate issue reported by 9to5Mac on August 21, 2024, involved manually typing a character sequence into Spotlight Search or the App Library. The report said iOS 17 could crash SpringBoard and soft-reboot, while iOS 18 and 18.1 showed a brief Spotlight freeze without a full SpringBoard crash. It also said researchers had no evidence that someone could trigger that bug without the device owner manually entering the characters. Those version-specific observations do not establish what happens on current software or validate the link warning.
WebKit security fixes in iOS 26.6.1
Apple’s security notes for iOS 26.6.1 and iPadOS 26.6.1, published September 14, 2026, list multiple WebKit issues affecting iPhone 11 and later among the product ranges covered. For CVE-2026-64784, Apple says processing maliciously crafted web content may cause an unexpected Safari crash. Other entries describe impacts including unexpected process crashes and memory corruption, with fixes such as improved bounds checking.

These entries document vulnerabilities addressed in that release; they do not identify the link in the warning or say that it causes a full-device reboot. Apple’s page gives the scope and remediation for each issue, so consult the individual entries rather than treating all WebKit bugs as the same event.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What should you do?
- Don’t forward the unverified link, and don’t open it just to test whether the warning is true.
- Keep your iPhone on a supported, current software release, and use Apple’s security documentation and credible technical reporting to check for confirmed issues and fixes.
- If an app closes or the phone restarts unexpectedly, treat that observation as a symptom, not proof that the viral link caused it or that the device was compromised.
The available sources do not establish a special setting, reset sequence, or workaround for this particular allegation. They also do not support buying a VPN, security app, case, screen protector, or repair tool as protection from it.
