CVE-2024-7593 is a critical authentication-bypass vulnerability in Ivanti Virtual Traffic Manager (vTM). Government advisories rated it CVSS v3 9.8 and California’s cybersecurity advisory reported active exploitation. Administrators should identify their deployed vTM branch, apply Ivanti’s appropriate current update, and restrict access to the management interface while remediation is underway.
What is CVE-2024-7593?
The flaw affects Ivanti Virtual Traffic Manager and stems from an incorrectly implemented authentication algorithm. A remote attacker who is not authenticated could bypass authentication to the administrative panel, according to Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC). California’s Cyber Security Integration Center says successful exploitation could let an unauthenticated attacker create an administrator account. NCSC Ireland advisory, published August 13, 2024; California Cyber Security Integration Center advisory.
NCSC Ireland and California reported a CVSS v3 severity score of 9.8, Critical, in their 2024 advisories. That published rating indicates a serious vulnerability; it does not establish that every deployment has the same exposure or that any particular organization was compromised.
Was CVE-2024-7593 actively exploited, and what is its CISA status?
California’s advisory described the vulnerability as under active exploitation. Ireland’s NCSC advisory, published August 13, 2024, marked the CVE as not present in CISA’s Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog at that time and said ransomware use was not known. Those statements describe different points in time, not necessarily conflicting accounts: a later NVD search-result record associates the CVE with CISA KEV mitigation guidance. The available record does not establish the precise date it entered the catalog. NIST National Vulnerability Database: CVE-2024-7593.

How to respond to CVE-2024-7593
- Identify your installation. Confirm whether your organization runs Ivanti vTM, then record the exact version and branch from the deployed system and its inventory records.
- Choose the branch-specific fix. Consult Ivanti’s current CVE advisory and release notes, then follow the applicable update instructions for your deployed branch. Do not assume the 2024 affected-version list or the later fixes listed above are a complete current matrix.
- Reduce management-interface exposure while updating. Restrict administrative access to trusted IP addresses or otherwise limit access in line with your security controls. NCSC Ireland describes this as a temporary mitigation; it is not a replacement for the appropriate vendor update.
- Investigate suspicious administrative activity. If you observe unexpected accounts or other suspicious activity, follow your organization’s incident-response process. The advisories cited here do not supply a complete set of indicators for determining whether a particular installation was compromised.
