The Zephyr is a wired gaming mouse with a small fan built into its palm-rest area. It is designed to move air across the hand, but reviewers reported modest cooling alongside noise or vibration—not a proven fix for sweaty palms. Its fan is only one part of the buying decision: the mouse’s shape, weight, tracking, buttons, and cable matter too.
What the Zephyr’s built-in fan does
The Zephyr Gaming mouse places a small fan in the palm-rest area. Zephyr Gaming’s 2020 Kickstarter campaign described it as a way to keep the hand cool and dry; that is the intended function, not a guaranteed result. The campaign FAQ said: “Absolutely, the fan can be set to 3 different speeds or completely switched off.” It specified three settings—4,000, 7,000, and 10,000 RPM—selected with a button on the underside. The company also claimed noise below 30 decibels at maximum speed, a vendor specification rather than an independent acoustic measurement. Zephyr Gaming’s Kickstarter campaign and FAQ.
Does it actually cool your hand?
Reviews describe some airflow or a cooler-feeling mouse, but their impressions differ and do not establish a universal result. The cited evaluations used prototypes or manufacturing samples, and there is no controlled, population-level study establishing how effectively the Zephyr cools users’ hands.
- Tom’s Hardware: The reviewer felt a gentle breeze and found the chassis stayed relatively cool. At the highest speed, the fan was audible and produced vibration. Tom’s Hardware’s Zephyr review.
- Notebookcheck: Its prototype produced limited airflow, and the fan was distracting. The review also noted that its prototype differed from the maker’s proposed final settings. Notebookcheck’s Zephyr review.
- Ultrabookreview: The reviewer reported slight airflow and a high-pitched whine at a lower setting, and was unsure that it would control very sweaty hands. Ultrabookreview’s Zephyr review.
Those findings make the fan a possible comfort feature, not a dependable solution for excessive sweating. “No more sweaty palms” was campaign wording, not a measured outcome.

What to weigh besides cooling
The 2020 Kickstarter campaign listed a PixArt 3389 optical sensor, up to 16,000 DPI, 1,000 Hz polling, RGB lighting, a paracord cable, Omron switches rated for 50 million clicks, and a weight of 68 g. These are campaign specifications; they should not be assumed to describe every production unit or establish current retail availability. Zephyr Gaming’s Kickstarter campaign.
When comparing the Zephyr with another gaming mouse, consider the complete experience rather than the fan alone:
