A shoe- or cleat-mounted power meter stays with the rider’s shoe, so you do not have to move the sensor when switching bikes. The catch is compatibility: each bike still needs a suitable pedal and cleat interface. CycloWatt describes a road-focused version of this design, but its website currently offers availability notifications rather than a normal order page.
How a shoe-mounted power meter transfers between bikes
A shoe-mounted meter measures power at the shoe or cleat rather than at a particular bike’s crank or bottom bracket. Once fitted, the measuring unit travels with the rider when they change bikes. The bike still needs a compatible pedal interface, so “goes from bike to bike” does not mean it works with every pedal or shoe setup.
CycloWatt describes its product as a cleat-based meter. Its campaign FAQ says the current design is intended for road cycling and comes in SPD-SL and Look Keo versions. Those are company statements; check the exact version and pedal compatibility before relying on them for a particular bike. CycloWatt campaign FAQ
What CycloWatt says its meter offers
Measurement and device connectivity
The FAQ describes CycloWatt as single-sided: it measures one leg and estimates total power. The company says it transmits over Bluetooth or ANT+ to a cycling computer or smartphone, and names Zwift, Wahoo, and Garmin among supported ecosystems. Confirm compatibility with your specific head unit or app before purchase.
#1 Best Overall
- Road cycling power meter pedals with a left pedal power sensor
- Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity deliver seamless compatibility
- Provide advanced metrics such as IAV Power Phase and IAV Rider Position
- Includes an inbuilt cadence sensor and gyroscope
- Detects actual instantaneous angular velocity with a ±1% accuracy
Accuracy claims are inconsistent
CycloWatt’s February 2026 campaign FAQ says its meter is designed for ±3% real-world accuracy. The company says it validated the device in controlled laboratory comparisons against a commercially available crank-arm meter, using multiple riders, repeated sessions, different cadences, and power from 100–600 W. This is a vendor-reported validation, not independent confirmation. CycloWatt campaign FAQ
The company’s product site separately claims ±1% accuracy, without explaining how that figure relates to the FAQ’s ±3% claim. Treat the discrepancy as unresolved; neither number should be read as an independently verified result. CycloWatt product site

Battery, charging, and cleat replacement
The FAQ states 48 hours of active-mode battery life and describes a magnetic charging connector. It also says the meter is modular, allowing the cleat to be replaced while retaining the measuring unit. CycloWatt’s site says installation takes about 30 seconds. These are product claims, and the pages reviewed do not establish retail replacement-part availability or final shipping specifications.
Is CycloWatt available to order?
As checked on October 5, 2026, CycloWatt’s website asks visitors to sign up for availability notifications. The reviewed pages do not establish that general retail ordering or shipping is open, so do not assume the meter can currently be bought through a standard order page. CycloWatt product site

How it compares with a pedal-based transferable meter
Pedal-based meters also make switching bikes relatively straightforward: the sensing hardware is on the pedal, not permanently installed in one frame. Garmin documents its Rally 110 and 210 pedals as transferable between bikes, including between compatible road and off-road pedal bodies. Rally is a pedal-mounted alternative, not a shoe-mounted meter. Garmin Rally RS210 product page Garmin on Rally transferability
Garmin’s Rally family includes Shimano SPD, Shimano SPD-SL, and Look Keo compatibility, but the exact pedal body and model matter. Its RS210 page lists Shimano SPD-SL compatibility and ±1% accuracy as a manufacturer specification, not an independent comparative test. Check the product page for the particular Rally model and body you intend to use. Garmin Rally RS210 product page Garmin on Rally transferability

What to check before choosing one for road and gravel bikes
- Pedal and cleat fit: Match the meter’s stated cleat system to the pedals on every bike you plan to ride. A compatible shoe alone is not enough if the pedal interface differs.
- Measurement sidedness: A single-sided meter measures one leg and estimates total output; this may not fully reflect both legs. Compare that approach with the measurement configuration of other models.
- Transfer method: A shoe-mounted design stays with the rider’s shoe; a pedal meter moves with the pedals. A crank or bottom-bracket unit may require more involved installation or encounter bike compatibility limits. Cycling Weekly: Best power meters 2026
- Evidence behind accuracy figures: Separate a manufacturer’s own claim from independent testing, and compare the stated conditions rather than treating percentages from different sources as directly equivalent.
- Practical ownership details: Check battery and charging arrangements, exposure to wear or damage, replacement cleat or pedal-body availability, and whether the product is actually orderable in your region.
Keep the 2024 prototype results separate
A 2024 paper reports tests of a CycloWatt research prototype, including a mean absolute error of 12.29 W (4.1%) in field results. It also reports prototype figures of 50 mW low-power operation, up to 25.8 hours of always-on active battery life, 4.33 ms processing latency, and 830 minutes of combined extended sessions. Those results describe the paper’s prototype, not necessarily the later campaign product, and do not validate its newer marketing claims. CycloWatt prototype research paper
