Agility Robotics’ 2023 announcement said participating customers could expect the first Digit robots in 2024 and projected general availability for 2025. Those were forecasts, not confirmation of shipments. In a September 2026 update, Agility described commercial deployments of Digit 4 and introduced Digit 5, whose early access is projected for the first half of 2027 and general availability by the end of 2027.
What RoboFab is—and what the 2024 headline meant
RoboFab is Agility Robotics’ humanoid-robot assembly facility in Salem, Oregon. When announcing it on September 18, 2023, Agility described a 70,000-square-foot factory intended to build Digit, its bipedal industrial robot. The company said participating Agility Partner Program customers should expect initial robots in 2024, while general market availability was projected for 2025. Agility’s 2023 announcement set out those timelines as plans; the announcement itself does not establish that either milestone occurred.
The initial use case was specific: moving, loading, and unloading totes, particularly in bulk-material-handling workflows at warehouses and distribution centers. It was not a claim that Digit was ready to perform any human task or work as a general-purpose household robot.
What Agility says has happened since
In a September 15, 2026 update, Agility said Digit 4 had accumulated more than 65,000 operational hours across North American customer sites, naming GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada. Agility also reported that Digit 4 at GXO’s Flowery Branch, Georgia-area facility reached 100,000 totes at approximately 98% accuracy while on-task. These are company-reported operating figures; the cited announcement does not establish an independent audit.

The 2026 announcement introduced Digit 5 and said Digit is assembled at RoboFab. Agility described Digit 5 as designed to repeatedly lift loads up to 50 pounds, with a 90-minute runtime battery that recharges in nine minutes, swappable grippers, and a 10:1 run-to-charge ratio. Those are product specifications and design claims from Agility, not independently verified test results. The company projected early access in the first half of 2027 and general availability by the end of 2027. See Agility’s Digit 5 announcement for its product and rollout details.
How much can RoboFab produce?
Agility said in 2023 that RoboFab could produce hundreds of Digits in its first year and had potential capacity to scale beyond 10,000 robots annually. It also forecast more than 500 employees at full capacity. The company’s 2026 release still described the 70,000-square-foot facility as designed for up to 10,000 robots a year.

Those figures describe announced plans and designed capacity, not a reported count of robots actually manufactured or current staffing. The 2026 announcement also reported more than $300 million in multi-year Digit 5 customer orders as of May 2026, subject to certain contractual milestones. That order figure is not the same as recognized revenue, unconditional demand, or completed deliveries.
Why “world’s first” needs qualification
Agility called RoboFab the “world’s first factory for humanoid robots” in 2023. Its 2026 wording was narrower: “the first factory purpose-built to assemble humanoid robots at scale.” The broad superlative is therefore best understood as Agility’s characterization, not a settled independent ranking. New Atlas’s contemporaneous 2023 report also noted that other companies had announced humanoid manufacturing plans, making an absolute first claim debatable.

RoboFab is not Agility’s only facility
Agility opened a separate 60,000-square-foot facility in Fremont, California, in July 2026. The company described it as a physical-AI development hub for training and advancing Digit capabilities, distinct from RoboFab’s Salem manufacturing operation. Agility’s Fremont announcement describes that development site.
