Reviewers in 2015 reported that coiling could still create knots.
What is the Zipbuds Slide’s “zipperless zipper”?
It is a sliding cable connector, not a conventional zipper with teeth. In a 2015 hands-on review, GeekDad described grooves on the two cable runs that engage as the slider moves, bringing the leads together. The reviewer also described aluminum rollers treated with Teflon lubricant; those are historical observations, not a current manufacturer specification. GeekDad’s 2015 review likened the action to closing a resealable food bag.
The Slide is a wired in-ear earbud. Its slider lets the two branches travel together for part of the cable run, then separate toward the earpieces. New Atlas’s 2015 coverage also mentioned angled ear tips and an inline remote with a noise-filtering microphone; those details describe the product as covered then, not necessarily any present-day listing. New Atlas’s product coverage called the feature a “zipperless zipper.”
How does the slider help avoid tangles?
When the leads are joined, they have less freedom to twist independently around one another. That can help keep the cable orderly while it is being handled or pulled from a pocket or bag. Ben Lovejoy’s 9to5Mac review, published July 30, 2015, reported that the earbuds usually came out untangled, though occasional knots still took only a few seconds to free. Lovejoy’s review described the design as convenient for a spare pair.

The benefit is resistance to tangles, not immunity from them. Forbes reviewer Ewan Spence noted in September 2015 that joining the branches helped during use, but coiling the cable for storage could still wrap it around itself. Forbes’s review therefore points to an important distinction: aligning the leads can reduce one common source of knots, but it cannot prevent every twist caused by winding or packing the cable.
What trade-offs did reviewers report?
- Bulkier cable: The 9to5Mac reviewer described the cable as chunkier and thicker than conventional earbud cable. That may be a downside if a slim cable is a priority.
- Sound assessment: Lovejoy characterized the sound as average. This was one reviewer’s subjective assessment, not a laboratory measurement or a judgment that applies to every listener.
- Storage still matters: Forbes’s coiling caveat means the slider should not be treated as a substitute for careful storage.
These are dated observations from reviews published in 2015, not controlled comparisons of the Slide against current earbuds. The 9to5Mac review’s phrase “tangle-free” is a reviewer characterization, not a promise that knots are impossible.

Is the Zipbuds Slide available now?
Current availability for the exact Slide model has not been established. The 9to5Mac article mentioned Amazon availability in 2015 for a previous-generation Zipbuds design; that does not confirm that the Slide is currently sold or listed. If you find a listing, verify that it identifies the Slide specifically, and check the seller and stock status rather than relying on the older Amazon reference.

A Google Patents record for USD652407S1, published January 17, 2012, describes an earlier zippered earphone design with teeth molded onto two wires that attach releasably. That is historical context for Zipbuds’ approach to organizing earbud cables; it is not evidence that the Slide uses the same toothed construction. Contemporary 2015 descriptions of the Slide instead discuss a slider engaging grooves on the cable runs.
