MWEB Namibia launched VSAT satellite internet in 2008, with homes, offices, businesses and lodges among its intended users. The launch and installation records describe a historical service; they do not confirm that MWEB or a successor currently accepts installation requests in Namibia.
What MWEB’s Namibia VSAT launch meant
Contemporary reporting in 2008 said MWEB had installed a VSAT earth station and launched satellite internet service in Namibia. The coverage described the service as available nationwide and identified homes, home offices, businesses and lodges as intended or early users. The Namibian’s 2008 report documents the announcement, not present-day coverage or availability.
What did a MWEB VSAT installation involve?
A surviving copy of MWEB’s VSAT installation and commissioning guide describes work led by an installer and coordinated with the network operations centre (NOC). It is useful as historical context, not as current do-it-yourself guidance: the equipment and procedures may no longer apply.
- Site selection and survey: The installer assessed the proposed location before fitting equipment.
- Equipment and tools check: The installation team checked its inventory and tools.
- Dish installation and pointing: The dish was mounted and aligned for the satellite link.
- Indoor-to-outdoor cabling: The installer ran the IFL cable between the dish equipment and the modem location.
- Modem setup: The modem was installed and configured.
- Commissioning: The connection was commissioned with the NOC.
How installation costs were treated
A CRAN-published Gazette records historical VSAT project costs as dependent on technical site-inspection requirements and calculated per project. It distinguishes installation charges from equipment and cabling charges. These historical terms are not a current price list, and they do not establish what a provider would include in a present-day installation.

Is MWEB VSAT installation available in Namibia now?
The available evidence does not establish whether MWEB currently installs VSAT in Namibia, or whether a successor accepts new requests. A 2015 report says AfricaOnline Namibia was previously known as MWeb Namibia and lists VSAT among its services at that time; it does not verify current availability. The 2015 report is corporate-history context, not a current service notice.

Telecom Namibia currently lists a VSAT service and describes it as “Unlimited downloads, always-on and high speed internet access at flat rate.” The page does not provide enough matching information to compare its coverage, installation cost, speeds, data terms or support with a current MWEB offer. Ask the provider for site-specific terms before deciding.
