The capability combines network peering with automated route selection; its advertised reduction of “up to 90%” comes from a narrowly scoped vendor test, not a result enterprises should expect everywhere.
What Netskope AI Fast Path is
Announced on February 25, 2026, NewEdge AI Fast Path is a set of network-path optimization capabilities for traffic to AI destinations hosted in public, private, or neo-cloud environments. Netskope said it was available to its customers at launch. It is an enterprise capability delivered through Netskope’s network and platform, not a standalone consumer device. Netskope’s launch announcement describes the service as part of NewEdge, its private infrastructure for delivering Netskope One security, networking, and AI services.
The problem it addresses is that AI applications can involve repeated exchanges between users, agents, and model providers. Network delay adds time to those exchanges, while security inspection and policy enforcement also need to remain in the traffic path. Netskope’s stated aim is to optimize routing while preserving inline inspection.
How the routing is meant to work
AI Fast Path combines NewEdge peering—the network connections Netskope maintains—with NewEdge Route Control. Netskope says Route Control continuously evaluates route conditions such as latency, jitter, and packet loss, then shifts traffic automatically when it identifies a better path. The intended benefit is to avoid less efficient routes and respond as network conditions change.

For AI traffic, Netskope says it also monitors measures associated with model response and user experience: time to first token (TTFT), sustained token generation rate, time per output token (TPOT), and the share of total AI latency attributable to network round-trip time. These measures can help distinguish network delay from other sources of waiting, such as provider-side processing. Netskope says the system may route around traffic surges, ISP connectivity failures such as fiber cuts, and AI-provider or cloud outages; actual resilience depends on available alternate routes and the specific deployment.
The company positions the optimized route as compatible with inline security inspection and policy enforcement. Network World describes the goal as reducing added delay while AI traffic remains subject to data loss prevention, threat protection, and policy enforcement. Network World’s launch coverage also reports Netskope characterized the capability as included in NewEdge for existing customers without additional licensing. That packaging detail is attributed to the company in the report and may change; customers should confirm current eligibility and terms with Netskope.

What the “up to 90%” figure does—and does not—show
In a July 21, 2026 announcement, Netskope reported latency reductions of “as much as 90%” to popular AI destinations. The methodology note says this maximum reflected testing to a representative AI destination from one NewEdge data center during June 5–12, 2026. Netskope says results vary by location, destination, and network conditions. It should therefore be read as a vendor-reported maximum under that test scope, not as a typical, universal, or guaranteed improvement.
The same release refers to tests across the global NewEdge network using real-world traffic, but its note specifically ties the maximum 90% result to the single-data-center test. Separately, Netskope says its AI-specific measurements—including TTFT, TPOT, throughput, network fraction, P95/P90 ratio, and geographic coefficient of variation—come from synthetic, ongoing monitoring of AI-provider endpoints. Those endpoint measurements are not the same thing as the real-world-traffic test. Neither set of claims is an independently reproduced benchmark in the cited material.

Netskope’s July release describes NewEdge as having more than 120 data centers in over 80 regions worldwide. It says that, as of June 2026, the network had more than 12,000 adjacencies to over 750 unique autonomous system numbers (ASNs) and analyzed tens of millions of routes daily. These are company-reported scale figures, not independent measurements. The release also says more than 80% of infrastructure and operations leaders were not confident their current teams and budgets could meet AI-era network performance, resilience, and security demands, citing Netskope’s January 2026 “Crucial Conversations: Line of Sight” research. The July announcement is the source for these figures.

Netskope presents AI Fast Path as relevant to several types of enterprise AI use:
Rank #4
- Runs UniFi Network for full-stack network management
- Manages 30+ UniFi Network devices and 300+ clients
- 1 Gbps routing with IDS/IPS
- Multi-WAN load balancing
- 0.96" LCM status display
- Conversational AI: Lowering TTFT may make an assistant appear more responsive while it begins answering.
- Multi-prompt agent workflows: Reducing network delay across repeated model calls may matter more as an agent chains together steps.
- LLMs accessing distributed data: Routing improvements may help when AI applications exchange information with data sources in different locations.
- Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG): Netskope cites improved connectivity for workflows that retrieve relevant material before generating a response.
These are vendor-described potential benefits, not independently verified outcomes for each use case or customer environment. As Netskope Chief Platform Officer Joe DePalo put it in the July release, “Every AI workflow, whether it’s a person prompting a chatbot or an autonomous agent chaining together a dozen calls to an LLM, is only as fast as the network performance underneath it.” The underlying network is only one contributor to perceived speed: provider queueing, model inference, application design, and data access can also affect response time.
How an enterprise should evaluate the claim
A useful evaluation should measure the buyer’s own traffic and retain the security controls the service is meant to preserve. Before adopting a performance claim, ask Netskope and your network team to define:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Destinations and geography: Which AI providers and endpoints are covered, and which user regions are represented?
- Latency baseline: What route is used for comparison, and does “latency” mean network round-trip time, time to first token, total response time, or another measure?
- Non-network delays: How are model inference and provider-side queueing separated from network delay?
- Security posture: Are DLP, threat protection, and the relevant policy checks enabled during measurement, as they would be in production?
- Conditions and repeatability: Do results reflect the buyer’s destinations, regions, and busy periods, and can measurements be repeated over time?
- Resilience: What happens during congestion, an ISP failure, or a provider outage, and how is failover behavior measured?
- Deployment and commercial terms: What routing or deployment requirements, customer-specific availability, service levels, and total costs apply?
The cited announcements and coverage do not establish customer-specific results, detailed deployment prerequisites, pricing, service-level comparisons, or neutral comparisons with competitors. Those details need to be confirmed for the organization considering the service.
