Meta and Oakley’s collaboration is the Oakley Meta line of camera-equipped, AI-enabled glasses. It began with HSTN, based on Oakley’s HSTN eyewear style, and later expanded with Vanguard, a wraparound model aimed at high-intensity sports. Oakley’s US product page lists the line from $399 USD, but local prices and availability vary.
What are Oakley Meta glasses?
Announced on June 20, 2025, Oakley Meta combines Oakley eyewear with Meta technology. The first model, Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced “HOW-stuhn”), has a built-in camera for hands-free photos and video, open-ear speakers, Meta AI and an externally facing capture LED. Meta presented the collaboration as a performance-oriented category for athletes and fans; those are the companies’ descriptions, not independent assessments. Meta’s announcement also names EssilorLuxottica as its broader eyewear partner.
In September 2025, Meta added Oakley Meta Vanguard, a distinct model framed for high-intensity sport. The two glasses share the broad idea of hands-free capture and audio, but differ in fit, protection claims, training integrations and stated battery figures.
How HSTN and Vanguard compare
| Feature | Oakley Meta HSTN | Oakley Meta Vanguard |

| Battery claims | Up to eight hours of typical use and up to 19 hours on standby. Meta also says the case provides up to 48 hours of charging on the go. | Up to nine hours of battery life or six hours of continuous music playback. Meta says the case adds 36 hours of charge on the go. |
| Sport integrations | No Garmin or Strava integration was specified in the cited HSTN announcement. | Meta describes Garmin workout-stat connections with compatible devices and Strava metrics in photo and video overlays; exact compatible Garmin models are not named. |
| Price information | Meta’s 2025 announcement set a $499 USD preorder price for a limited edition and said the rest of the collection would start at $399 USD later that summer. | Meta announced $499 USD ahead of the October 21, 2025 launch. |
The battery, camera and protection figures in this table are manufacturer-published specifications, not independent test results. The two models’ figures describe different use cases and should not be treated as directly comparable test measurements. Vanguard’s speaker level was described by Meta as six decibels louder than HSTN; that is also a company comparison, not independent testing. See Meta’s Vanguard announcement for its full description.

Which model should you choose?
Choose HSTN for Oakley’s original style
HSTN is the straightforward fit if you want the original Oakley Meta design based on Oakley’s HSTN style and do not specifically need Vanguard’s sport framing or named training integrations. Oakley’s current US page lists PRIZM options, prescription HSTN lenses in an eligible range of -6.00 to +4.00, and Transitions choices. Confirm lens eligibility, cost and availability during ordering, since options can vary by market.
Choose Vanguard for a wraparound sport design
Vanguard is the model to investigate if a wraparound fit and the announced Garmin or Strava features matter to your training. Garmin workout stats require a compatible Garmin device; the sources do not identify specific compatible models. Check compatibility before buying on the assumption that a particular watch or device will work.

How much do Oakley Meta glasses cost?
Oakley’s US product page, reviewed October 4, 2026, lists the Oakley Meta line starting at $399 USD and presents HSTN and Vanguard. Oakley says the externally facing capture LED signals to nearby people when the wearer takes a photo or video, or when the glasses are turning on. The instructions describe one-touch and voice capture. The indicator is a visible recording signal, but it does not by itself answer every privacy question: be considerate about where you record and follow applicable rules.
What the announced specifications do—and do not—tell you
Meta’s HSTN announcement gives a claimed charge to 50% in 20 minutes, up to eight hours of typical use, up to 19 hours on standby and up to 48 hours of charging on the go from the case. For Vanguard, Meta claims up to nine hours of battery life, up to six hours of continuous music playback and 36 additional hours from the case. These figures are model-specific vendor claims; real results can depend on use, and the announcements are not independent battery tests.

Likewise, the IPX4 and IP67 labels above are the ratings reported by Meta. They should not be extended into assumptions about a particular activity or exposure beyond what the product documentation supports. Check the manufacturer’s current care and use guidance for the model you are considering.
Meta cited EssilorLuxottica’s report of millions of Ray-Ban Meta units sold since launch in its 2025 HSTN announcement. That figure concerns Ray-Ban Meta, not Oakley Meta, and does not establish Oakley Meta sales.
