What you need to stream Xbox games to Discord
- An Xbox Series X|S or Xbox One connected to Discord.
- A Discord account linked to your Xbox account.
- A Discord server voice channel, or a direct-message call transferred to the console.
- Xbox privacy settings that allow streaming. Child accounts cannot stream.
Discord is not a standalone Xbox app. Linking accounts enables Discord voice and related features through the console interface. Discord announced Xbox game streaming on September 6, 2023, and says it is available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One: Discord’s feature announcement.
How to stream your game from Xbox to Discord
- Link your accounts. In Discord, open User Settings > Connections and connect your Xbox account. If you already linked Xbox for Discord voice, Discord’s instructions say you do not need to relink it for streaming.
- Join a Discord voice channel on Xbox. Press the Xbox button, open Parties & chats, choose Discord, then select a server and voice channel.
- Start the stream. Choose Stream your game. If prompted, select Start stream. Nitro subscribers can adjust the available resolution and frame-rate options.
To stream while in a direct-message or group direct-message call, join the call on Discord desktop or mobile, then use Transfer to Xbox to move it to your console. Discord’s Xbox Connection FAQ covers both server channels and transferred calls.
Stream quality and console limits
Discord Support documents these maximums for Xbox-to-Discord streaming with Nitro:

These are Nitro specifications in Discord Support’s FAQ; it does not state a universal maximum for non-Nitro streams. Check the options shown in your console rather than assuming a particular free-tier resolution or frame rate.
What viewers can see—and what they cannot
The stream shares the game’s audio and video. Xbox apps and other services are not streamable through this feature. If you switch away from the game or close it, the stream pauses.

Streaming and watching are separate features. To watch a friend’s Discord stream on Xbox, open the call’s member list from the Xbox guide and select Watch Stream. Discord Support lists 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1440p as supported incoming stream resolutions on Xbox. Discord announced this viewing capability in 2024: See what’s happening on Discord from Xbox.

You cannot remain in Xbox Party Chat while using Discord voice on Xbox or streaming to Discord from the console. Joining the Discord call on Xbox means leaving the Party Chat; plan to use one voice-chat service at a time.

If “Stream your game” is missing
- Confirm that your Discord and Xbox accounts are linked.
- Check that the console is updated.
- Review Xbox privacy settings and allow streaming.
- Remember that child accounts cannot stream.
- If the option is still unavailable, follow the troubleshooting direction in Discord’s connection FAQ and contact Xbox Support; these checks do not guarantee a fix for every issue.
