Samsung’s 2021 iTest campaign let iPhone users preview a simulated Galaxy interface. The current version of that idea is Try Galaxy, a free browser-based One UI simulation. It runs on supported iPhones, but it does not turn an iPhone into a Galaxy phone or provide real Galaxy apps or hardware.
What happened to Samsung iTest?
Samsung iTest was a web promotion aimed at iPhone users in 2021. In its April 2021 report, MacRumors described an experience that prompted iPhone users to add a web app to the Home Screen. Opening it displayed a simulated Galaxy home screen, sample apps and settings, feature messages, and tutorials. The report said Samsung was advertising the experience in New Zealand at the time; that was a historical campaign detail, not a statement about current availability.
Samsung’s current browser experience is called Try Galaxy. Samsung’s October 2025 UK announcement describes it as a free web application for exploring a simulated Galaxy experience on non-Galaxy devices. Its February 26, 2026 U.S. announcement covers previews associated with the Galaxy S26 generation. The name changed, but the basic idea remains: explore selected Galaxy software concepts in a browser.
How do I use Try Galaxy on an iPhone?
- Open Safari or Chrome on your iPhone and go to TryGalaxy.com, or scan Samsung’s QR code.
- Tap “Try now!” and follow the setup instructions.
- If you want app-like access, add Try Galaxy to your iPhone Home Screen. Samsung says the experience described in its October 2025 announcement does not require an app-store download, account, or installation.
Samsung’s February 2026 U.S. availability note specifies an iPhone 8 or newer, the latest version of Safari or Chrome, and an internet connection. These are the stated requirements for the U.S. experience; availability and requirements can differ by market or change over time.

What can you preview?
The selection is tied to Samsung’s dated feature announcements, not a promise that every preview is available to every visitor. In October 2025, Samsung described previews of One UI 8 and Galaxy AI experiences, including Photo Assist, Audio Eraser, Now Brief, Instant Slow-mo, Gemini Live, and Circle to Search. It also highlighted interactions for the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7, plus experiences involving Watch8, Buds3, and Galaxy Ring. Samsung noted that some Galaxy AI features may require a Samsung account and availability can vary by region.
Samsung’s February 26, 2026 U.S. announcement added selected One UI 8.5 and Galaxy S26 experiences, including Now Nudge, Privacy Display, Nightography, and Photo Assist. Samsung states that Photo Assist in this preview is available only on the S26 Ultra. The announcement also points to Smart Switch, Samsung Health, Z-series foldables, Galaxy wearables, and Galaxy XR experiences. The specific previews may vary with date, region, and device eligibility.

Is Try Galaxy a real Galaxy phone?
No. Samsung’s February 2026 U.S. announcement says: “Try Galaxy is a simulation of Samsung’s One UI. Actual UX/UI on Samsung devices may differ. You are not accessing actual apps on your device’s functions or hardware when running this app.” Treat it as a guided software preview, not an emulator or a way to run Android apps on an iPhone.
Because the experience does not use Galaxy hardware or actual device apps, it cannot show how a particular phone’s camera, display, battery life, speed, app availability, or physical design will perform. Samsung also cautions that features can differ by phone model and that network conditions may affect the experience. Feature availability can vary by country or region, and some Galaxy AI previews may require a Samsung account.

Try Galaxy versus trying a physical Galaxy phone
| What you want to learn | Try Galaxy | A physical Galaxy phone |
|---|---|---|
| Convenience and cost | Free browser-based preview, according to Samsung’s October 2025 description. | Requires access to a real device; cost depends on how you obtain one. |
| Software preview | Selected interface and feature demonstrations; the announced lineup is date- and region-sensitive. | Lets you use the software available on that specific phone, subject to its model and software version. |
| Real apps and hardware | Does not access actual Galaxy apps, functions, or hardware, according to Samsung’s February 2026 caveat. | Lets you assess the actual device and its installed apps. |
| Feature eligibility | Previews may be limited by region, model, network, or Samsung account requirements. | Depends on the phone model, software, region, and any feature-specific requirements. |
If you are deciding whether to switch, Try Galaxy can help you get a feel for selected One UI concepts. To judge real-world hardware or confirm how a feature works on a specific model, you need access to that Galaxy device.
