Waqar Ahmed says he built UniRecorder, a collection of more than 40 free browser tools, using mostly standard web technologies and without requiring users to sign up or upload files. His account is also a useful early lesson in product measurement: a visitor who finishes a conversion and leaves may have succeeded, even if analytics records a bounce.

What Ahmed says he built

In a September 20, 2026, post, Ahmed describes UniRecorder as a collection spanning screen recording, PDF and image handling, text utilities, calculators, unit conversions, and smaller tools. He lists a 4K screen recorder with webcam overlay; Image to PDF and PDF Merger; image compression and resizing; word counting, case conversion, and text reversal; more than 20 calculators; currency, length, weight, and temperature converters; plus a password generator and Base64 encoder. These are the creator’s descriptions of the collection and its features, not an independent product test. Ahmed’s September 20 account on DEV Community

Ahmed says he wanted to make common tasks available without a signup, watermark, short recording limits, fees for basic features, or uploading personal files to unfamiliar servers. Those motivations explain the project’s direction; they are not a finding about every other tool or service.

How he approached the build

Ahmed’s September 20 post describes a framework-free stack: HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. He names the MediaRecorder API for screen recording, Canvas for image processing, jsPDF and pdf-lib for PDF creation and merging, LocalStorage for cookie consent, and GitHub Pages for hosting. He says he skipped frameworks because he considered browser technologies sufficient for the tasks he had in mind.

In his September 26 follow-up, Ahmed again names JavaScript, MediaRecorder, Canvas, jsPDF, pdf-lib, and GitHub Pages, but describes IndexedDB for local video storage. The two posts do not establish one independently verified architecture, so the storage details are best read as what he reported in each account rather than merged into a definitive technical inventory. Why recording was difficult

Ahmed calls the screen recorder the hardest part of the project. He points to differences among browsers in MediaRecorder MIME-type support as an implementation challenge. That is his account of the work, not a survey of browser compatibility or a guarantee that the recorder works identically in every browser.

What “no upload” means here

Local processing is central to Ahmed’s description of UniRecorder. In the follow-up, he writes, “Everything runs 100% client-side.” He also describes the tools as processing files in the browser rather than sending them to a server.

That is a creator’s privacy claim, not an independently verified security or privacy finding: neither post reports a code review, network inspection, or privacy audit. Anyone handling sensitive files should treat the distinction accordingly and consult the tool’s own current privacy information before relying on it.

What the early usage numbers showed him

On September 26, 2026, Ahmed reported figures from Google Analytics for an early snapshot of the site. The numbers below are his published reports, not independently audited measurements or a description of current traffic.

Reported measure Ahmed’s figure Attribution and date
Active users 171 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
New users 164 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
Events 567 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
Image to PDF users 35 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
PDF Merger users 33 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
Image Compressor users 25 Waqar Ahmed, 2026
Image Resizer users 13 Waqar Ahmed, 2026

Ahmed also reported visits from Vietnam, Singapore, Hong Kong, Indonesia, and Pakistan. He interpreted the mix as evidence that people beyond his intended audience were finding the site, and that common file tasks have international appeal. It is an observation from a small, early snapshot—not proof of a general market or search trend.

Why task-focused pages mattered

Ahmed’s practical SEO observation was that individual tool pages seemed to answer task-oriented searches better than general blog posts. His example was the query “convert image to PDF”: a person using those words is likely looking for a working conversion tool, not just an explanation of the format. That is his reading of the site’s early activity, not a universal rule about search rankings.

The distinction is useful when planning a small utility site. A page built around one concrete job can make the intended action clear: choose a file, convert it, and download the result. A general article may be useful for explaining trade-offs or steps, but it answers a different need. Ahmed’s figures suggest which of his pages drew activity during that snapshot; they do not establish why each person arrived or whether the task was completed.

When a bounce can mean success

Ahmed initially worried that analytics showed a 100% bounce rate on every page. In a discussion prompted by a commenter, he reconsidered what that metric meant for a utility: someone might convert a file, download the result, and leave because they got exactly what they came for.

He said he would add completion events and pay attention to starts of a second, relevant tool. The insight is less about a controlled experiment than about choosing metrics that match the product. For a one-task page, useful signals can include whether the user starts and completes the task, encounters an error, or chooses a logical next step—not simply whether the session lasts longer.

Context matters for that next step. After an image-to-PDF conversion, a related image compressor or resizer may be relevant; an unrelated tool recommendation can add friction rather than value. Ahmed’s proposed focus was on contextual next actions that fit the task the visitor had just completed.

What this story does—and does not—establish

Ahmed’s accounts show how one solo developer says he assembled a broad set of small browser tools with familiar web APIs, and how he began interpreting early usage. They do not independently establish current feature availability, the correctness of the analytics setup, the site’s present audience, or how its code handles every file. The most transferable lesson is narrower: choose a simple implementation that fits the job, make the intended task easy to complete, and measure completion rather than assuming a short visit is a failure.
