The companies called it “Canada’s first open mobile wallet”; that was their description, not an independently verified ranking. The announcement proposed a spring 2014 commercial availability date, but does not establish when or whether Ugo actually launched.
What Ugo was meant to do
Ugo was designed to let customers make a payment and earn or redeem loyalty points in one tap. Users were initially expected to load TD Visa cards, PC Financial MasterCard cards and PC Plus loyalty cards. The service was to use near-field communication (NFC), the short-range wireless technology used for contactless interactions.
PC Financial president Barry Columb described the intended experience as using a PC Financial MasterCard while earning and redeeming PC points “in one single tap transaction” at Loblaw or banner stores. This was a statement in the 2013 announcement, not an independent test of how the service performed.
Which cards, stores and phones were announced?
Payments and loyalty
The initial payment-card options named were TD Visa and PC Financial MasterCard. PC Plus was the announced loyalty integration, with points redeemable at Loblaw and its banner locations. Loblaw was identified as Ugo’s first retail and loyalty-program partner; the announcement did not say that all retailers or loyalty programs were supported.

At announcement, Ugo was planned for NFC-enabled BlackBerry and Android phones. The companies said other platforms could follow in later releases, but did not identify a date or list of platforms in the announcement. TD’s November 6, 2013 announcement also described card security features and additional security features for the wallet.
What was planned for later?
The 2013 announcement framed additional major partners, debit and gift cards, more loyalty programs and product offers as future additions, not as launch-day capabilities. It said commercial availability was planned for spring 2014. That date records the companies’ plan at the time; the announcement alone does not confirm an actual release or subsequent availability.

What UGO Mobile Solutions reported in 2015
In an October 23, 2015 release, UGO Mobile Solutions said that more than 100,000 customers had signed up and more than 250,000 cards had been added to wallets in less than a year. These are company-reported historical figures, not independently verified market measurements or evidence of present-day usage.
The same release said features added over the preceding two quarters included support for multiple loyalty cards and the ability to store, redeem and electronically receive gift cards. It characterized UGO as an application combining payment, loyalty and gift cards. UGO Mobile Solutions’ October 23, 2015 release is the source for those later claims.

The available company announcements document Ugo’s proposed design, intended partners and later reported features and adoption. They do not establish the actual commercial launch date, whether the service remains active, present app-store availability, current device compatibility or current partner coverage. For that reason, Ugo is best understood as a historical mobile-wallet announcement rather than a recommendation for a wallet readers can use today.
