The apparent change of allegiance is part of the skit—not evidence that Long personally switched computers.
What happens in the Qualcomm ad?
Qualcomm’s Computex keynote skit casts Long as a Mac user whose computer is interrupted by notifications about app compatibility, low storage, and battery. The character then looks for a Windows on Arm alternative, and the spot ends with the line “Things change.” MacRumors reported the unveiling on June 3, 2024: its coverage of the Qualcomm skit.
The premise works because Long previously played the Mac in Apple’s “Get a Mac” ads. Here, the recognizable advertising history is the joke: a former Mac spokesperson appears to consider a rival platform.
Did Justin Long really switch from Mac to PC?
The available account establishes that Long performed in a Qualcomm promotion. It does not establish that he personally abandoned a Mac, bought a Snapdragon PC, or changed his everyday computer use. The switch belongs to the character and the ad’s storyline.

That distinction matters when interpreting the spot: it is a scripted commercial, not a report about Long’s purchasing decision or an independent recommendation based on his personal experience.
Which PCs did the campaign promote?
The ad promoted Windows on Arm PCs built around Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus platforms, including systems in Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC category. Qualcomm’s June 3, 2024 announcement said more than 20 devices had been announced with Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Microsoft, and Samsung. It expected major-retailer availability to begin June 18, 2024; that is historical launch information, not a statement about current stock. See Qualcomm’s Computex announcement.

Examples in Qualcomm’s later lineup include the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x, Samsung Galaxy Book4 Edge, Microsoft Surface Laptop, and ASUS Vivobook S 15. These are distinct products, not interchangeable versions of one standard “Snapdragon PC.” Configuration, design, and availability depend on the model and seller. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon PC lineup includes selected model links, but a listing there does not confirm a particular configuration is currently in stock.
Are the Mac problems in the skit unique to macOS?
No. The ad’s notifications, storage warning, and compatibility prompts are storytelling devices; they do not demonstrate that those frustrations are exclusive to Macs. Windows Central’s commentary on the campaign notes that notifications are not unique to macOS and that Windows on Arm applications can also depend on emulation.

Compatibility is a practical consideration on either platform, but Windows on Arm adds a specific question: whether the applications and peripherals a buyer relies on work natively or through emulation. The commercial does not compare a defined set of apps, devices, or tasks, so its fictional Mac complaints should not be treated as a controlled platform test.
How should Qualcomm’s performance and battery claims be read?
Qualcomm used the event to promote performance, on-device AI, and battery life. Its CEO, Cristiano Amon, said Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs “can deliver multi-day battery life.” Qualcomm also claimed that Snapdragon X Elite could achieve up to 51% faster CPU performance at ISO power and match a competitor’s peak PC CPU performance at 65% less power. Those are Qualcomm’s 2024 vendor claims, not universal results for every laptop, workload, or later processor generation.

Qualcomm’s accompanying Copilot+ PC explainer describes specified 2024 tests and comparison configurations, and cautions that performance varies significantly by device configuration and usage. For example, one May 2024 Cinebench 2024 multi-core comparison used 12-core Snapdragon X Elite and 10-core Snapdragon X Plus configurations against a 15-inch M3 MacBook Air with an 8-core CPU and 10-core GPU. A result from that test setup should not be generalized to all Snapdragon and Mac computers, nor does it establish the battery life of an individual retail laptop.
The same Qualcomm explainer described Microsoft’s Copilot+ PC criteria at the time as at least a 40 TOPS NPU, 16 GB of memory, and 256 GB of storage. Qualcomm also said its 2024 Copilot+ devices featured a 45 TOPS NPU. These are dated descriptions of the 2024 category and devices, not a confirmation of current Microsoft eligibility rules.
What the ad can—and cannot—tell a buyer
The skit identifies the product family Qualcomm wanted viewers to consider, but it does not establish that a Snapdragon PC is the right choice for a particular person. A useful comparison starts with specific models and configurations rather than the campaign’s broad promise.
- App compatibility: Check that essential work, creative, or specialist apps—and any required peripherals—are supported on the exact Windows on Arm model.
- Battery evidence: Look for tests of the specific laptop under a stated workload and method. Qualcomm’s company-wide claims do not predict every device’s runtime.
- Configuration: Compare memory, storage, screen, ports, and form factor on the configuration actually offered by a retailer.
- Availability: Verify current stock and price with the seller; the June 2024 launch date and announcement list are not current inventory information.
TechSpot reported the skit’s search-style phrase, “Where can I find a Snapdragon-powered PC?” (TechSpot’s report). For a purchase, the more useful next step is to compare named models and check their current configurations, software compatibility, and retailer availability.
