Simplenote: for notes you want to capture and find
Simplenote keeps the emphasis on text, tags, and search rather than asking you to design a linked knowledge base. Its official feature page lists real-time cross-device syncing, instant search, tags, sharing and publishing, revision history, and Markdown support. It also lists apps for iOS, Android, Mac, Windows, Linux, and browser use. The company says its apps, backups, syncing, and sharing are free (Simplenote).
That makes it a sensible starting point if most of your notes are short pieces of text and your main requirement is getting them onto a device and finding them later. The published feature list does not establish whether its attachment handling or organization will suit a more complex workflow, so check those specifics if you rely on them.

Joplin: for more control without giving up flexibility

That scope suits shared information and structured work better than a personal quick-capture habit. Before migrating, decide what your notes need to do. A short trial with a handful of real notes can reveal more than a feature checklist: capture a thought, find it again later, and check the experience on the devices you actually use.
