The EnGenius ECS2512 is a cloud-managed Layer 2+ switch with eight 2.5GbE copper ports, four SFP+ ports and a manufacturer-listed 120 Gbps switching capacity. It is not a PoE switch. If you need powered Ethernet, compare it with the separate ECS2512FP model, which EnGenius specifies with PoE++ and a 240W budget.
What ports and speeds does the ECS2512 have?
The ECS2512 provides eight copper Ethernet ports supporting 100, 1,000 or 2,500 Mbps, plus four SFP+ ports for uplinks. The port layout is suited to connecting multi-gigabit devices while reserving SFP+ ports for higher-speed network links. EnGenius does not establish a specific compatible transceiver in the cited product information, so check current compatibility guidance before selecting optics or cabling.
EnGenius lists support for 802.3u 100Base-TX, 802.3ab 1000Base-T and 802.3bz multi-gigabit Base-T, as well as full-duplex flow control. Its datasheet specifies a 16K MAC address table and 120 Gbps switching capacity. These are published specifications, not independent throughput-test results. See the EnGenius ECS2512 product page and EnGenius ECS2512 datasheet.
Does the ECS2512 support PoE?
No. The ECS2512 is not the PoE variant. EnGenius lists the ECS2512FP separately as an eight-port PoE++ switch with a 240W power budget. Choose based on whether connected devices need power from the switch; do not assume that the ECS2512 can power access points, cameras or phones over Ethernet. Confirm the ECS2512FP’s current specifications for your deployment on the EnGenius ECS2512FP product page.

How can you manage the switch?
EnGenius describes cloud management and standalone management options for the ECS2512. Its product page also describes zero-touch provisioning, centralized cloud management and visualized monitoring, along with security capabilities including access control lists (ACLs), DHCP snooping, DoS attack prevention, 802.1X and RADIUS authentication. These are manufacturer-described features; the appropriate operating mode and configuration depend on the network.
For a managed installation, decide whether centralized cloud administration or standalone operation better fits the environment, then verify the current documentation and firmware requirements before deployment.

What should you check before choosing it?
- Device ports: Count how many connected devices need 2.5GbE rather than 1GbE, and account for all eight copper ports.
- PoE requirement: If devices must receive power through Ethernet, investigate the ECS2512FP or another PoE model instead.
- Uplink hardware: Plan for the SFP+ link type, transceiver compatibility, fiber type and distance. The cited specifications do not identify a particular supported optic.
- Management mode: Confirm whether cloud-managed or standalone operation suits the installation.
- Power and market details: The European product page specifies a 100–240 VAC, 50/60 Hz input. Warranty terms and stock vary by market; check the listing for your region.
Availability and warranty vary by region
When checked, EnGenius’s Canadian store listed the ECS2512 as sold out. That status does not establish availability elsewhere or on other marketplaces. The same Canadian store listing describes a five-year warranty, which should not be assumed to apply in other regions.
