Yes—Dell Private Cloud now offers Nutanix AHV alongside its other software ecosystems, with Dell PowerEdge compute and Dell external block storage. Dell announced the option on February 10, 2026. It gives enterprise teams another platform choice and lets them scale compute and storage independently in the disaggregated model, but it is not blanket support for arbitrary servers or arrays. The deployment has defined hardware and cluster requirements, and PowerStore availability has been described differently across vendor materials.
What Dell added—and what “multi-hypervisor” means here
Dell Private Cloud is a disaggregated infrastructure offering: PowerEdge servers provide compute, Dell external block storage provides storage, and Dell Automation Platform works with Nutanix software to deploy and operate the environment. Dell says the platform can support multiple software ecosystems, including VMware, Red Hat, and now Nutanix AHV. This is an additional deployment choice, not a claim that a running environment can switch hypervisors without workload migration, licensing review, compatibility checks, and testing.
Dell describes the benefit as flexibility to scale compute and storage independently. That is vendor positioning, not a published independent performance or cost result. Caitlin Gordon, Dell Technologies vice president of product management for Private Cloud and AI Solutions, said: “Dell Private Cloud now supports Nutanix with external storage flexibility. Keep the simplicity you love, gain the freedom to scale independently.” Dell’s February 10, 2026 announcement.
Not the same as Dell XC
Dell XC is a separate turnkey hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) appliance family built around PowerEdge and Nutanix Cloud Platform. Dell Private Cloud separates compute and storage into distinct layers. The choice matters if a team wants to scale those resources separately, has existing operational boundaries between server and storage teams, or prefers an integrated HCI appliance. Compare the actual supported configuration, management responsibilities, licensing, lifecycle ownership, and support arrangement—not only the Nutanix name.

Which storage systems are supported, and how much is automated?
Support status is not just a matter of whether a storage array can provide block volumes. Dell’s Tech Book distinguishes platform-integrated storage from platform-compatible storage. Integrated storage has Dell Automation Platform management touchpoints and automates host mapping and unmapping in deployment blueprints. Compatible storage lacks those touchpoints; administrators use its own element manager and may have to complete mapping steps before an orchestration workflow can continue.
Dell’s Tech Book lists PowerFlex as platform-compatible and calls the platform-integrated storage category a future release. Availability statements for PowerStore are not aligned: Dell’s February 10 announcement said integration was planned for summer 2026; Nutanix’s April 7, 2026 release described PowerStore support as Early Access and planned general availability with enhanced Dell Private Cloud automation; a Dell technical-brief search result also pointed to summer 2026, while the fetched Tech Book still labels platform-integrated storage future release. These dated statements do not establish that PowerStore is generally available now. Check the current Dell/Nutanix orderable support matrix and confirm the status for the exact configuration before committing.

What hardware and deployment requirements apply?
Dell’s listed configuration is specific. Treat these as published requirements to validate against current compatibility documentation, not as a universal recipe for any Nutanix cluster.
- Servers: 16th-generation Intel-based Dell PowerEdge R660 or R760.
- Boot and power: BOSS-N1 with two 960 GB M.2 drives in RAID 1, plus redundant power supplies.
- Management and networking: iDRAC Enterprise or Data Center; networking through OCP 3.0 or PCIe.
- GPU: NVIDIA GPU support is listed.
- System traffic: at least 10GbE. Dell says Dell SONiC and any switch capable of 10GbE or higher are supported.
- Storage capacity: the Dell storage platform must provide at least 1 TB of free, unallocated block storage for the Dell Private Cloud Extension.
- Nutanix prerequisite: the customer provides a Nutanix Foundation instance.
Dell lists cluster sizing from 3 to 32 nodes, but a single cluster deployment operation can include no more than eight nodes. For initial deployment, nodes should match in PowerEdge model, networking configuration, and CPUs. Expansion may mix PowerEdge models if system-traffic networking matches. Confirm software versions, supported combinations, licensing, and country availability with current vendor documentation. A Dell technical-brief search result names AOS 7.5, AHV 11.0, Foundation 5.10, and PowerFlex Core 4.5.5/Manager 4.8.0.0; those version details are provisional and should be verified before use in a design.

How to assess whether this option fits
- Identify the intended operating model. Decide whether independent compute/storage scaling is important, or whether an integrated Dell XC HCI appliance better matches the workload and team structure.
- Validate the full configuration. Check exact PowerEdge model and components, switch and system-traffic design, free block capacity, cluster size, and supported Nutanix versions against current vendor matrices.
- Confirm storage workflow and status. Determine whether the intended array is platform-integrated or platform-compatible, what mapping work remains manual, and whether the desired capability is generally available, early access, or planned.
- Map operational ownership. Clarify who manages Dell Automation Platform, Nutanix Foundation and software, storage element management, licensing, support escalation, and lifecycle updates.
- Plan migration as a separate project. If moving workloads from VMware, Red Hat, or another environment, assess application dependencies, conversion or rebuild needs, licensing, test coverage, and downtime. The product announcement does not establish frictionless hypervisor switching.
