It is a historical product, and the available sources do not establish whether Lumenlab still sells or supports it. It is also distinct from Matrix Technology Solutions’ current MicroCNC educational machines; the similar names do not show that Matrix’s machines are successors or compatible replacements.
What was the Lumenlab micRo CNC?
In a 2009 profile, Make: described the micRo as a three-axis CNC robot offered by Lumenlab. Writer Gareth Branwyn reported that Lumenlab founder Grayson Sigler described it as “a desktop manufacturing workstation.” That phrase conveys the intended role of a compact machine for computer-controlled making, rather than establishing any particular performance specification. Make:’s 2009 profile is period coverage, not evidence of present-day sales or support.
What size work could it handle?
In a 2011 first-person account, Make: contributor Steve Lodefink reported a work area of about 12 × 10 × 4 inches. Treat that as one user’s dated report, not a verified official specification: the reviewed sources do not establish that Lumenlab published or confirmed those dimensions. Lodefink’s 2011 account provides the reported figure.
Can you still buy or get support for a Lumenlab micRo?
The reviewed sources do not establish whether Lumenlab currently sells the micRo, offers support, or lists a current price. They therefore cannot confirm that a new kit, spare parts, or service are available. Anyone considering a used machine should verify its condition, included controller and tooling, documentation, and seller’s ability to demonstrate operation; the period articles alone do not answer those practical questions.

Is Matrix’s current MicroCNC the same machine?
No connection is established by the similar names. Matrix Technology Solutions maintains a separate educational MicroCNC range, and a distributor lists its configurations; neither source identifies these as Lumenlab micRo successors, nor confirms that Matrix parts fit the older machine. Treat them as separate product lines unless a manufacturer or seller verifies a specific compatibility claim.
Matrix configurations and workflow
Matrix’s current range includes a 2-axis lathe and 3- and 4-axis milling configurations. The controller and base plate are ordered separately according to the manufacturer overview, so check the exact configuration and included components before comparing or ordering. Matrix describes a workflow in which CAD designs are converted to G-code using CAM software. It names DeskProto and recommends Autodesk Fusion for Education; listed prototype materials include wax, PU board, and acrylic. These details describe Matrix’s machines, not the Lumenlab micRo. Matrix’s MicroCNC overview, workflow, and resources and TecSolutions’ Matrix MicroCNC family page describe that current family.

Matrix accessories are not confirmed micRo parts
Matrix lists spare drill bits, modeling blocks, wax cylinders, and downloadable assembly and getting-started materials for its own line. The accessory information does not establish that those items fit a Lumenlab micRo. Before buying any CNC drill bit or work material for a legacy machine, confirm the machine’s required shank, diameter, geometry, and workholding dimensions rather than relying on the product name alone. Matrix’s MicroCNC page lists the current-line accessories and resources.
