To get a Laotian IP address, use a VPN that currently offers a Laos location: install its official app, choose Laos, connect, then check the public IP shown to websites. This changes the apparent IP location; it does not prove you are physically in Laos or guarantee that a specific website or app will accept the connection.
How to connect to a Laos VPN location
- Check availability. Choose a provider that lists Laos, and confirm the location is available for your subscription plan and device. Server lists and plan terms can change.
- Install the official app. Sign up if required, download the app from the provider, and install it on the device you want to use.
- Select Laos. Open the app and choose Laos from its map or location list. Proton VPN says users can double-click the Laos marker on its map or select a listed server; ExpressVPN says users can search its location list for Laos or try Smart Location (Proton VPN; ExpressVPN).
- Connect and verify. Tap or click Connect and wait for the app to report an active VPN connection. Then check your public IP with a reputable IP lookup service. Geolocation databases can disagree, and an IP lookup does not prove where the VPN provider’s physical server is located.
VPNs with a listed Laos location
The following are provider-published details, not independent tests. Confirm current availability and plan terms directly before subscribing.

What to compare before choosing
- Current Laos availability: Confirm that Laos appears in the provider’s live location list and that you can connect to it with your plan and device.
- Virtual location and routing: If the physical route matters to you, check whether the provider identifies the Laos endpoint as virtual and where it routes traffic. ExpressVPN describes its Laos location as virtual and routes it through Singapore; that detail should not be assumed for other providers.
- Plan requirements: Check whether Laos access is included in a free tier or requires a paid plan. Proton says its free plan does not include Laos servers.
- Device support: Make sure the provider offers an app for the device you plan to connect.
The provider pages cited here do not establish a controlled comparison of speed, uptime, privacy practices, or streaming access. Their location and product descriptions are provider statements, not independent verification.
If the Laos connection does not work
- Check the provider’s current location list and confirm Laos is available on your plan and device.
- If the app offers more than one Laos endpoint, try another one.
- Confirm the VPN app reports an active connection, then check the public IP again. A lookup result may differ between geolocation databases.
- If a website or app still rejects access, contact the VPN provider. A Laos IP does not guarantee that a service will accept the connection.
Does a Laotian IP mean you are in Laos?
No. A VPN can make services see an IP address geolocated to Laos, but this does not establish your physical location or the physical location of the VPN server. For example, ExpressVPN says its Laos location is virtual and routes traffic through Singapore. The sources cited here do not establish that VPN use is currently legal in Laos, so they are not enough to support a definitive legal conclusion.
